Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Torino.
Hi Don, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am President of Bergen County Audubon Society , the local chapter of the national Audubon Society . I grew up and still live in the NJ Meadowlands I am the author of two books about my life in the meadowlands , I lead twice monthly nature walks besides doing educational programs around the region
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
growing up in a family that struggled it was never easy , the nj meadowlands was an area where the worst crimes against nature happened but has come back to one the best birding locations in the Northeast
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
as president of BCAS my challenge has always been getting more people from all backgrounds out to enjoy and connect with nature and today I think at bcas we do that very well. I am the author of two books about my experiences growing up and living in the meadowlands . I have a monthly Radio show called the Nature Connection on WFDU 89.1
How do you think about happiness?
Being out nature has always been my happy place, its who I am where I belong where I feel accepted of course taking my grandchildren outside with me is even better
