Check Out Monique Powell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Powell.

Hi Monique , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Sew Mystique Boutique started as a creative outlet for me during a busy season of life. As a wife and mother, sewing became a way for me to relax, express myself, and create something meaningful with my hands.

What began as making handmade bags and accessories grew into a business, and over time I realized that I also loved teaching and sharing the joy of sewing with others. Today, I’m rebranding Sew Mystique Boutique into a mobile sewing business that will offer classes, parties, and creative workshops in the community.

My goal is to create experiences that help people slow down, learn something new, and feel proud of what they create.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Balancing being a wife, mother, working professional, and business owner has come with its challenges. There have been times when I had to step back, reevaluate my direction, and figure out how to make my business fit into my life rather than overwhelm it.

One of my biggest lessons has been learning that growth doesn’t always mean doing more it sometimes means being willing to pivot. Sew Mystique Boutique began primarily with handmade bags and accessories, but over time I realized that my passion was also in teaching, creating experiences, and sharing the joy of sewing with others. That realization led me to reimagine the business as a mobile sewing experience.

The challenges have helped me become more intentional about what I want Sew Mystique to represent and where I want it to go.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the owner and creative behind Sew Mystique Boutique, a handmade and mobile sewing business. I specialize in creating handmade bags and accessories while also bringing sewing experiences directly to the community through beginner-friendly classes, parties, and workshops.

What I’m most proud of is creating an inclusive space where everyone can feel welcomed, supported, and capable of learning something new. My goal is to make sewing fun, accessible, and empowering for people of all abilities, while giving them the opportunity to slow down, be creative, and feel proud of what they make.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with Sew Mystique Boutique by booking a mobile sewing class, private event, birthday party, or community workshop. I’m also open to collaborating with schools, libraries, nonprofits, local businesses, photographers, event planners, and organizations that want to bring creative, hands-on experiences to their communities.

The best way to support Sew Mystique is by booking an experience, shopping handmade, sharing the business with others, or simply following along as we continue to grow. I’m especially excited to connect with partners who value creativity, inclusion, and making sewing accessible to people of all abilities.
