Check Out Patrick Hogue’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Hogue.

Hi Patrick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story is one that starts similarly to others. I grew up as a kid who loved/was raised on movies and has spent his entire life heading trying to recapture the magic I felt watching Jurassic Park for the first time.

That has lead me down a path of so much self-discovery. Using youtube as a creative outlet, refining my filmmaking abilities and making some lifelong friends at film school in Rochester. Then there was the four year L.A. Odyssey, having a whole other range of experiences, while meeting more lifelong friends while also having some of the most creative fulfilling experiences of my life. Then came the NYC reboot, moving BACK across the country after covid and basically starting over any sense of a career I was building, on top of trying to get through the collapse of modern democracy with any semblance of grace.

Only for that journey to lead me back to this moment, on the precipice of thirty one, getting ready to make my first feature film and feeling like that same kid again, watching Jurassic Park.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth is certainly not the word I would use to describe path I’ve taken. There where many many moments where I got very good at blaming things outside my control for my “lack of success”.

Every moment I thought “This is it! Everyone’s finally going to recognize my talent and give me everything I’ve ever wanted and certainly deserve!”, the tide would just continue to come and go as it always does.

No big movie deals, no agents busting down my door. Just me again, having to figure out what to try next.

But in that Sisyphean repetition, I’ve realized that the goal shouldn’t be to “get to success”, the goal should be to make the moment I’m in as successful as possible. For every film or creative endeavor I have pursued, I have nothing but pride just for the sake that I pursued them, and that has given me a lot of calm looking forward.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Predominately, I am a writer/Director focused on filmmaking, but above all else, I am a storyteller.

I have made several short films over the years, along with a number of other filmmaking projects, with any pride I have towards my work being in my constant search to explore more complex emotionalities with each story.

While Horror is my genre of interest, within each of my films is a deep core of empathy that I feel is starting to feed a hunger in fans of the genre.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Authenticity.
