Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Jacobus.
Hi Dawn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My path into wellness began with motherhood. When my daughter was born prematurely, I researched ways to support her growth and development. I learned that therapeutic touch — particularly massage — has been associated with helping premature infants thrive. That experience showed me how powerful human connection can be: touch can help regulate the nervous system, support recovery, and create conditions for healing.
Inspired by both the science and the results I saw in my own child, I pursued formal training in massage therapy. I built a practice that included deep tissue, sports massage, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, Thai massage, and Reflexology. I later studied Healing Touch, an energy-based modality rooted in Eastern healing traditions. It uses gentle, intentional touch — or hands-off techniques near the body — to support balance in what practitioners describe as the human biofield, with the goal of promoting physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.
After a decade in massage therapy, I enrolled in esthetics school. It was a natural extension of the work I already loved: adding advanced skin treatments so I could offer a more complete therapeutic experience. Today, those two disciplines — bodywork and esthetics — sit at the center of my practice.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a practice as a solo entrepreneur is rarely a straight line. The work has been deeply fulfilling — I have always been a leader, and operating independently has given me both purpose and joy — but it also requires constant self-management.
The hardest days are the ones that feel overwhelming: wearing every hat, staying current with education, caring for clients, and still protecting your own well-being. What has made the difference is discipline. I learned that you have to protect time for continuing education, self-care, and clear goal-setting — and that none of those matter without follow-through.
Those habits are how I show up consistently for myself, my clients, and my community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner and operator of ANEW DAWN™ | Beauty and Balance. I am a licensed massage therapist, lymphatic therapist, licensed esthetician, and facial sculptor, with more than 28 years of experience in the wellness industry.
I am known for a heart-centered, intuitive approach and for specialized lymphatic drainage of the head, neck, face, and body. I integrate that work into advanced facial sculpting and lifting treatments, so clients can see visible results while also supporting overall wellness. The practice blends therapeutic massage, lymphatic expertise, and holistic modalities in a calm setting designed for clients to relax, refresh, and renew.
What sets the work apart is intention. Since I was a teenager, I have been drawn to listening well, holding space, and meeting people with compassion. Technique matters — and so does the quality of presence behind it.
I also believe the most credible teaching is lived example. I have competed in bodybuilding and placed first in the Naturalmania competition; I set records in track and field in the 100, 200, 400, and 800 meters; I was a competitive cheerleader and volleyball player; and I have run my own business since I was 19. I try to live the standards I recommend: regular exercise, thoughtful nutrition, non-toxic skincare, quiet reflection, red/infrared light therapy, and Lifewave non-transdermal phototherapy patches, and a practice of forgiveness and gratitude.
The greatest reward is still the simplest one: seeing a client leave with a brighter, more relaxed face and body. I am passionate about helping people invest in skin health through facial massage, lymphatic drainage, infrared and red light, and consistent sculpting treatments — not as vanity, but as a way to look and feel their personal best.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I see risk as a necessary part of growth, not as recklessness.
Stepping out on my own, investing in new equipment, and developing my own skincare line were all calculated risks. Each one required a clear vision and a willingness to work toward a return on that investment. Being visible in the public eye has felt like a risk as well. Confidence in your skill and a steady focus on the work are what keep momentum from slipping.
Business owners do not build something meaningful by only playing it safe. Healthy risk — taken with preparation, belief in your craft, and a long-term plan — is how you move from an idea to a practice that can actually serve people.
