Today we’d like to introduce you to Jedsy Torres.
Hi Jedsy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Jedsy J. Torres, co-owner of AJR Accounting & Associates LLC, which I proudly lead alongside my husband and business partner, Amilcar Y. Rosa. Our journey has been built on resilience, teamwork, faith, and a deep commitment to serving our community.
We didn’t start with a large office or a team — we started with knowledge, determination, and a shared vision to build something meaningful. Early on, we saw how many small business owners — especially in immigrant and minority communities — were working incredibly hard but lacked proper financial guidance and strategic support. We knew we wanted to create more than just a tax office. We wanted to build a firm that truly partners with clients and helps them grow.
We began by offering accounting and tax services to individuals and small businesses in Newark and surrounding areas. Through trust, referrals, and consistent results, AJR Accounting & Associates expanded into a full-service firm supporting construction companies, trucking businesses, nonprofits, salons, restaurants, and many other industries.
Building the company together as husband and wife has been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey. We each bring different strengths to the table — strategy, operations, client relations, compliance, and long-term vision — and that balance has allowed us to grow sustainably while maintaining strong relationships with our clients.
As the business grew, so did our mission. Community impact became central to everything we do. We’ve supported nonprofit initiatives, youth programs, food drives, and local organizations because we believe success is not just measured in revenue — it’s measured in how many lives you positively influence.
Today, AJR Accounting & Associates is more than an accounting firm. It’s a platform for empowerment — helping entrepreneurs build stable businesses, create jobs, and establish generational wealth. The journey hasn’t always been easy. It required sacrifice, long hours, and constant learning. But every challenge strengthened our partnership and clarified our purpose.
What motivates us most is knowing that when our clients succeed, their families and communities succeed too. That impact is what continues to drive us forward every day.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs, we’ve faced challenges that tested both our resilience and our faith.
In the early stages, one of the biggest struggles was building trust. As a small, family-owned firm, we had to prove ourselves in a competitive industry where many clients were used to larger, established companies. We worked long hours, often sacrificing weekends and personal time, to make sure every client felt supported and valued.
Another challenge was growth management. As demand increased, we had to learn how to scale responsibly — implementing systems, improving internal processes, and expanding services without compromising quality. Growth is exciting, but it also requires discipline, structure, and constant learning.
Balancing business ownership with family life has also required intentional effort. Building a company together as husband and wife means you don’t always “leave work at the office.” We had to learn how to separate business discussions from personal time, communicate effectively, and support each other through stressful seasons. That balance didn’t happen overnight — it came through experience and maturity.
There were also economic challenges — changing tax laws, market uncertainty, and the impact of major events that affected small businesses across New Jersey. During those times, instead of stepping back, we leaned in. We educated ourselves more, strengthened our advisory services, and focused on helping clients survive and adapt.
Every obstacle became a lesson. Every setback strengthened our systems and our partnership. Looking back, those challenges were not roadblocks — they were stepping stones that shaped us into stronger leaders and built a more resilient company.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
AJR Accounting & Associates LLC is a full-service accounting, tax, and business advisory firm based in Newark, New Jersey, proudly owned and operated by my husband, Amilcar Y. Rosa, and myself.
At our core, we specialize in helping small and mid-sized businesses build strong financial foundations. While we provide traditional services such as tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, and compliance, what truly sets us apart is our strategic advisory approach. We don’t just prepare numbers — we help business owners understand them, use them, and grow because of them.
Over the years, we’ve developed strong expertise in working with construction companies, trucking and transportation businesses, nonprofits, restaurants, beauty industry professionals, and service-based entrepreneurs. Many of our clients come to us overwhelmed or unsure about compliance, licensing, audits, or financial planning. We become their long-term partners — guiding them through structure formation, tax planning, risk management, and long-term growth strategies.
What sets us apart is our accessibility and commitment. Our clients know they can call us, ask questions, and receive real guidance — not just automated responses. We combine professional standards with a personal approach. Being a family-owned firm allows us to build genuine relationships with the people we serve.
Another aspect of our brand that we are especially proud of is education. We believe financial literacy empowers communities. Beyond our firm’s services, we develop industry-specific educational resources and guides to help business owners understand compliance, safety, accounting systems, and long-term financial planning. Our goal is to equip entrepreneurs with knowledge so they can build sustainable, generational success.
Brand-wise, what we are most proud of is the trust we’ve built. Many of our clients have been with us for years, referring their families, friends, and colleagues. That loyalty speaks louder than any advertisement.
We want readers to know that AJR Accounting & Associates is more than an accounting office — it is a strategic partner for growth. We are committed to helping business owners operate confidently, remain compliant, and build businesses that create jobs and stability within their communities.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that has been most important to our success is resilience.
Entrepreneurship is not predictable. There are seasons of growth, uncertainty, pressure, and constant change. Resilience has allowed us to stay focused during difficult moments, adapt when regulations or market conditions shift, and continue moving forward even when the path isn’t clear.
Resilience also means being willing to learn. In our industry, tax laws evolve, compliance standards change, and business environments shift. We’ve remained committed to continuous education and improvement so we can serve our clients at the highest level.
Equally important is integrity. Our clients trust us with sensitive financial information, major decisions, and long-term planning. Protecting that trust through transparency, honesty, and professionalism is something we take very seriously.
Finally, faith and partnership have played a major role. Building a company as husband and wife requires communication, respect, and shared vision. That foundation has strengthened both our business and our leadership.
If I had to summarize it in one word, it would be resilience — the ability to stay steady, stay ethical, and stay committed no matter the challenge.
