Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Ryan.
Hi Matt, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story as a small business owner began over 18 years ago in March of 2008 when I opened HomeFront Studios. I was presented an opportunity to take over a recording and rehearsal studio which was a dream of mine. In April 2008, the U.S. housing market crash occurred and the great recession began. I remember being quite nervous and scared of starting a business during such a turbulent time but I was determined to pursue my passion for music and recording. 18 years later and I’m not only still running my recording & rehearsal studio, but I’ve recently expanded the business and opened a second rehearsal space location called HomeFront 2.0! I’m looking forward to continue to provide good quality recording and rehearsal services and provide musicians with a comfortable space to create!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Covid and the pandemic posed a very serious challenge for me like so many others. My business came close to closing down but fortunately I was able to work things out with my landlord to stay afloat during the 3 month period where I wasn’t allowed to open my business. Fortunately I was able to adapt my business the best I could and I was able to get through the pandemic. Now, I’m in a much better place.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about HomeFront Studios?
HomeFront Studios is a fully equipped Recording and Rehearsal studio located in Caldwell, NJ. I’ve been there for over 18years. I’m the owner and head audio engineer. I have over 20 years experience in sound engineering and I graduated from William Paterson with a degree in Sound Engineering Arts. I’ve been recording and mixing bands for over 20 years. I’ve had multiple recordings featured in independent films released on Netflix and Amazon Prime. I’m very proud of the fact that my customers and clients all have a very positive experience while at HomeFront Studios. My Google Rating is 100% positive, I’ve never received a negative rating in over 18 years and I’m proud of that!
I’m also very excited for my new business expansion with my best friend and business partner Dean Nevolis. HomeFront 2.0 launched in August and the official grand opening is September 1st 2026!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
There are a couple of characteristics and qualities I feel have been very important to my success. Respect for the people I’m providing services for, Empathy, Grit and my ability to adapt to different situations and learn from mistakes are all characteristics that have helped me along my path as a small business owner.
