Today we’d like to introduce you to Skylar Marcoux.
Hi Skylar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

A terrifying personal experience turned into community impact. A few years back, I was followed home from the train one night. Luckily, I had my head on a swivel and the physical ability to protect myself and get to safety, but the aftermath was tough. I didn’t feel safe going out at night or taking the train alone. In the weeks after, I turned to yoga and connected with my local community to rebuild my confidence, ground myself, and get my peace of mind back.
Going through that healing process opened my eyes to two major things. First, situational awareness and self-protection training shouldn’t be locked behind expensive or intimidating spaces. Everyone deserves access to those skills. Second, real safety comes from community.
That is why we launched the B3 Fearless Foundation, focused on the 3 stages of the SkySafe Self-Protection Training model: Be Prepared, Be Aware, Be Empowered. We host free community yoga classes where we teach heightened environmental awareness and simple self-protection concepts in a welcoming, approachable space. Beyond the movement aspect, it acts as a way to bring neighbors together. We partner with local bars and restaurants near SEPTA stations to highlight them as safe havens for commuters who might feel uncomfortable walking alone.
We recently partnered with the ALINE Network app as our technology partner. Now, if someone ever feels unsafe out on the street, they can use the platform to connect with human-verified strangers nearby and ask for trusted help or accompaniment.
What began as a scary night walking home alone has grown into something really special. We are helping people build confidence through movement, turning local businesses into safe zones, and using technology so nobody has to feel alone.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped how we operate.
One of our biggest hurdles was realizing how difficult it is to get people to prioritize self-defense training, as well as how hard it can be to get approval to host those types of events. Traditional self-defense can feel intimidating or intense, so we started using yoga as a much more approachable entryway. It lets people come together, move, and build a comfortable community first. Once that bond is there, offering occasional self-defense classes feels way less intimidating because people can attend together.
Finding the right home for those self-defense classes was another challenge, but we were lucky to find Broad Street Kickboxing. They have been an incredible, welcoming space with extremely caring instructors who have guided us every step of the way.
Right now, funding is really our main obstacle. To make self-defense training genuinely useful, people need consistent, ongoing practice. We have the community momentum and the right venue partner, but securing the funding to host these classes regularly is the missing piece holding us back.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about B3 Fearless Foundation?
Our mission is to make personal safety accessible in our community.
We specialize in helping people build confidence and situational awareness before they ever find themselves in a dangerous situation. Our entire approach centers on our B3 Framework: Be Prepared, Be Aware, and Be Empowered.
Be Prepared: The first step in self-protection training, but the last program to launch, is the strength and conditioning training needed to remain agile and give yourself the best possible advantage to run to safety when needed.
Be Aware: We partner with spaces like Broad Street Kickboxing to offer physical self-defense and conditioning so people feel capable in their own bodies. We teach practical public transit safety and everyday awareness, highlighting local bars and restaurants near SEPTA stations as designated safe spaces for commuters.
Be Empowered: We host free, trauma-informed community yoga classes to help people rebuild mental resilience, reconnect with their bodies, and form organic bonds with neighbors.
What truly sets us apart is that we do not treat self-protection as a one-time martial arts lesson or a scare tactic. We view safety as an ecosystem built on movement, local community support, and leveraging technology when you otherwise feel alone.
Through our partnership with ALINE Network, we are taking community trust into the digital space. ALINE serves as our technology partner, enabling people who feel unsafe outside to instantly connect with human-verified strangers nearby for trusted assistance or accompaniment.
We want readers to know that you do not have to navigate personal safety alone or wait for something scary to happen before taking charge of your peace of mind. Whether you join us for a free yoga flow, take a self-defense workshop, support our partner businesses near transit stops, or connect through ALINE Network, you are joining a movement that believes safety is a shared community effort.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Resilience. Turning a scary night into a movement for community safety required resilience from day one. Building B3 has meant navigating plenty of obstacles, from getting people to prioritize self-defense training to securing event approvals and operating on a tight budget to keep our programs free.
Resilience is not about toughing things out alone. It is about adapting and finding creative solutions, like using yoga to build trust before diving into physical self-defense. That same resilience is what we want to pass on to our community so everyone feels empowered and capable in their daily lives.
