Conversations with Ace Bundy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ace Bundy.

Hi Ace, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been drawing for almost 20 years, now. From a 6 year old drawing Sonic characters on poster boards, to a 25 year old freelancer and character designer. I got very far, but there’s still so much I want to branch out and do!

Throughout practicing my 10,000 hours, I learned how to toy with color, shape, silhouette, and ultimately, I learned how to gather inspiration from the world around me. And make it mine.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A lot of struggles came my way. Money was a huge one, parental support was another. The biggest obstacle that still affects me to this day is both imposter syndrome, and the fact I’m not the machine I used to be when it came to creating art and animatics.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in alternative characters and fashion designs. I also love to redesign popular characters in my own way, usually for more visibility for those in my circles. I’m proud of the brand I have made for myself. 100 style variations later, I’m still discovering more and more of myself to pour into my art.

I’m proud of the fact I have the opportunity to make characters for stories and background game art. It’s so honorable to be sought out personally for someone’s project, someone’s BABY.

I think what sets me apart from others is the way I cope with my BPD and BP1 through my characters. Through style, I get to become my own creation. And through some sort of inner energy recycling, it becomes easier to draw and flesh out these characters I love so much, just by being them for a bit.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Being remembered by others and celebrated for existing makes me feel like I’m floating.. It’s great when I’m reminded I dont have to do something great to be appreciated. I also like being able to show my style that I’ve worked on for years to “perfect”, and getting credit for that growth.
