Hi Amanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Let’s just say the salon world isn’t all pretty and fun, a lot of salons are negatively charged and have staff that almost act as toxic as your ex. No shade, do you, but I did not enjoy having my appearance, my words, my laughter, my life being judged and spoken about behind my back. My plans shifted, a “friend” asked if I would like to branch out, be an independent contractor and take my clients in her salon. Unfortunately, something was said about me being independent in front of clients and her values changed. It got uncomfortable REAL fast, now, 7 months later, I am running my suite independently. Welcome to Roots & Rituals.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I will just say people would rather have drama to listen to and be a part of, than to work and do their jobs. Lol But doing hair has taught me, no one is perfect, but we are all beautiful.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Alternative Hairstylist, I specialize in vivid colors, and color corrections! I love to sew, it’s relaxing, so I would also say I LOVE to do hand tied weft extensions! I am so proud to say that just 9 years into my career I am on my own, as my own boss, and a business owner, and I am loving every minute of it!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned along the way is that no one is going to do it for you. If you want to succeed, if you want to be known, if you want to make the hard earned money, you have to be willing to show up and do the work.
