Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Krukauskas.
Hi Angela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
No1HungryinEHC began with a promise. After Angela Krukauskas’ husband suffered a cardiac arrest during recovery from knee replacement surgery, he was resuscitated and placed in a coma with only a 5% chance of survival. During those uncertain days, Angela made a heartfelt promise to God: if her husband survived, she would dedicate her life to helping others.
When he began to recover, Angela kept that promise. Inspired by the kindness she received from neighbors and friends during her family’s struggle, she decided to give back by feeding others in need. What began as a simple wooden box on her lawn—filled with food for anyone who was hungry—quickly grew into a community movement.
By 2017, Angela had turned her porch into a full-fledged neighborhood food exchange. When city officials asked her to stop, she didn’t give up. Through persistence and the support of residents, Angela continued to fight for a permanent solution. In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, a generous Egg Harbor City resident donated a building, giving No1HungryinEHC a true home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our journey to building No1HungryInEHC into what it is today has been marked by perseverance and continuous challenges. We continue to navigate obstacles with city officials while working to support communities across Atlantic County during a time of significant food insecurity.
From Humble beginnings – a small box in a yard, to a tent, to a borrowed small warehouse – we have steadily grown. Today, we operate from a permanent location that required extensive rebuilding and refurbishment, reflecting both our progress and our commitment to serving those in need.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I left my job for what has become my life’s true work and passion No1HungryInEHC food pantry – helping those in our community in need.
How do you define success?
When you can sleep at night knowing that you did the best you can.
