Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Johnson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Serene By Nature was birthed in my townhome where I decided that I wanted a peaceful place where people could go to relax feel peace and get their hair done. even if they weren’t being serviced they would sit around and enjoy the atmosphere. My first salon was in Mount Holly and even though it was a great place I led that place from a place of fear because I didn’t realize that I needed to take stewardship over this business. I lost it 3 years later and in 2020 I had the opportunity to own again and decided that I would steward this place better. We currently have 3 other stylists and we are looking to grow other stylists that are eager to learn and be equipped in this salon industry!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely has not been a smooth road.
I learned that every stylist is different.
Business owners learn the most on a daily basis
It’s ok to pivot when vision has to be tweaked
I learned that it’s my responsibility to see this vision flourish but I cannot do it alone, delegation is essential
Even on rough days show up, things eventually fall in line
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a natural haircare specialist but I specialize in loose natural hair and microlocks and sisterlocks. I’m proud how my customers trust me with their hair.
We are a salon that lbuild relationships with clients, we don’t just do your hair we care about your well being the joys and the pains the great moments and the not so great moments. This sets us apart from other salons not to mention we grow and repair hair and we style very well!
What matters most to you?
That clients grow not only in their hair but mentally physically and emotionally. Most people wear their hair based on how they feel about themselves. I care mostly about the inside of a person, because if a person comes together inside their outside falls better into place
