Conversations with Polly Pockets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Polly Pockets.

Hi Polly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
began my journey by attending the number one makeup school in the country, where I laid the foundation for my career and fell deeply in love with the artistry behind beauty. From there, I pursued my dream of working in the entertainment industry, gaining hands-on experience doing makeup for the big screen and creative projects. Along the way, I expanded my skill set into hair, allowing me to offer a full beauty experience. After years of learning, growing, and refining my craft, I took the leap to open my own beauty studio. A space that reflects my passion, creativity, and dedication to helping others feel confident and empowered.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many creatives, the journey wasn’t always easy. There were moments of self-doubt where I questioned whether I was good enough, and times when giving up felt easier than pushing forward. But I learned to trust the process and remind myself that slow and steady truly wins the race. No matter where the finish line is. That belief kept me moving forward.

Today, all of those experiences led me to open my own beauty studio, a space built on perseverance, passion, and growth. It represents not just where I am now, but everything it took to get here.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional makeup artist and hair stylist with a background rooted in high-level training and real-world experience. I specialize in makeup for events, editorial-inspired looks, and beauty that enhances rather than masks individuality. My work is known for being clean, intentional, and tailored, whether it’s for everyday confidence or a special moment.

What sets me apart is my foundation. I trained at the number one makeup school in the country (MakeUp Designory NYC) and went on to pursue work in the entertainment industry, gaining experience with makeup for the big screen. That background taught me discipline, attention to detail, and how to work under pressure, while still honoring creativity. Expanding into hair allowed me to become a well-rounded artist and offer a complete beauty experience.

I’m most proud of building my career slowly and intentionally. There were moments of self-doubt and times when I questioned if I was good enough, but I chose to keep going. I believe slow and steady wins the race, and that belief shaped not only my work but my work ethic. Opening my own beauty studio is a reflection of that journey proof that growth, persistence, and staying true to your craft truly pay off.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One of the lessons I carry with me daily comes from Harry Potter: it’s not where you come from or how powerful you feel at the start, but the choices you make that define who you become. There were many moments in my life and career where I doubted myself, felt unseen, or questioned if I belonged in certain rooms. Much like Harry, I learned that courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s showing up even when fear is present.

In my everyday life, this lesson reminds me to choose persistence over self-doubt and growth over comparison. I may not always feel like the most confident person in the room, but I continue to choose my craft, my passion, and my purpose. Those choices made consistently over time are what led me to build my own studio and create a life rooted in creativity and intention.
