Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon McCabe.
Hi Sharon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Rogue Hair has always been a true mother-daughter partnership. We opened Rogue Hair together in 2016, and it was actually Brittani’s idea to create a salon that felt completely different from the traditional salon experience. From the very beginning, our vision was to build a space where every guest felt genuinely welcomed, cared for, and pampered—a place that offered exceptional hair services while creating an unforgettable experience.
I’ve been in the beauty industry for 43 years, and Brittani started her journey at just 16 years old as my assistant. She later went to college, but it didn’t take long for her to realize her true passion was in the beauty industry. She returned to the salon, and together we committed ourselves to building our dream.
Today, we’re not only business partners—we’re best friends. Our strengths complement one another perfectly. I lead the creative direction, education, and artistic side of the salon, while Brittani oversees operations, business growth, and the guest experience. Every milestone we’ve reached, every challenge we’ve overcome, and every success we’ve celebrated has been accomplished together. Rogue Hair is a reflection of our shared vision, our family, and our belief that visiting a salon should be so much more than getting your hair done—it should be an experience people look forward to every single time they walk through our doors.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Like most small businesses, our journey has been filled with incredible highs and some very difficult lows. If someone only sees where Rogue Hair is today, they don’t see the years of hard work, sacrifices, setbacks, and determination that got us here.
When Brittani and I opened Rogue Hair together in 2016, we had a vision of creating something completely different from the traditional salon. We wanted every guest to feel like family and every team member to feel valued, supported, and inspired. Building that kind of culture doesn’t happen overnight.
One of our biggest challenges has been learning that not everyone shares the same values or work ethic. Over the years, we’ve had employees who weren’t the right fit, and those situations were often heartbreaking because we truly invest in our team. We don’t just hire stylists—we mentor them, educate them, and want them to succeed. Sometimes that investment is returned, and sometimes it isn’t. Those experiences taught us the importance of protecting the culture we’ve worked so hard to create.
Like many small business owners, we’ve also faced financial challenges, changing economies, COVID, staffing shortages, and the constant balancing act of running a business while trying to maintain a healthy personal life. Most people don’t realize that as owners, there are countless nights and weekends spent solving problems, worrying about payroll, supporting employees through their own challenges, and making difficult decisions that no one else sees.
On a personal level, the past few years have tested us in ways we never expected. I’ve endured multiple major surgeries, including a knee replacement, an emergency pacemaker, hip surgery, and most recently a life-threatening internal bleed that nearly took my life. Through it all, Brittani stepped up in incredible ways, carrying responsibilities no daughter should have to shoulder while making sure our team and our guests continued to receive the care they deserved. That experience reminded us that family is everything and reinforced why we’ve always built Rogue Hair around supporting one another.
Today, we’re incredibly proud of the team we’ve built. They aren’t just coworkers—they are truly family in every sense of the word. They love each other, support each other, and show up for one another in both the good times and the hard times. There is a genuine sense of care, loyalty, and connection within our salon that you can feel the moment you walk in. They celebrate each other’s successes like their own, check in on one another when life gets hard, and always step up to help without hesitation. That kind of love and unity is rare, and it’s something we never take for granted. They also extend that same level of care and attention to every guest who walks through our doors, making sure everyone feels seen, valued, and welcomed.
Looking back, we wouldn’t change the difficult moments because they shaped us into stronger leaders, brought us even closer as a mother-and-daughter team, and helped us build the culture of love, support, and family that we always dreamed Rogue Hair could be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Absolutely — here is your document formatted cleanly so you can copy and paste it easily:

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people know us as salon owners and hairstylists, but what they may not know is how different our strengths really are. I’ve always been the artist. Beyond doing hair, I love painting, murals, resin art, home décor projects, and anything that allows me to be creative. Whether I’m designing a hair transformation, educating our team, or creating a piece of art, I find joy in bringing ideas to life.
People are often surprised to learn that after 43 years in the beauty industry for me and 20 years for Brittani, we’re still just as excited to come to work every day as we were when we first started. We genuinely love what we do and are always learning, growing, and staying inspired by new techniques and trends.
While I naturally gravitate toward the creative and educational side of the business, Brittani has an incredible business and financial mind. She has a gift for seeing the bigger picture, making smart business decisions, and ensuring Rogue Hair continues to grow while never losing sight of our values. At the same time, she absolutely loves being behind the chair, building relationships with her guests, and continuing her education. She has the perfect balance of business sense, creativity, and genuine passion for the industry.
Our strengths complement each other perfectly, and that’s what has made our mother-daughter partnership so special. Together, we’ve built Rogue Hair into more than just a salon—we’ve created a place where creativity, education, exceptional service, and meaningful relationships are at the heart of everything we do.
