Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Gladovic.
Hi Anita, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Firstly, thank you for the opportunity to share my story.
Although I officially started my photography business in 2019, my passion for photography began much earlier. Growing up in Croatia, I watched my dad shoot with film cameras and develop photos in a darkroom. While he never formally taught me the craft, he definitely passed on his love for it.
When I moved from Croatia to the United States at 24, it was both exciting and challenging. Leaving my family behind was one of the hardest parts, and there were moments when I felt homesick. At the same time, starting over in a new country gave me the motivation to build something meaningful and create a life I could be proud of.
While I was waiting for my work permit during the immigration process, I enrolled in the New York Institute of Photography. It gave me the knowledge and confidence to pursue photography professionally, and once I was able to work, I was ready to turn my passion into a career.
Living in beautiful Cape May has also been a huge source of inspiration. I wanted to embrace everything this special town has to offer, especially its incredible beaches. Being able to use such a stunning natural backdrop to tell my clients’ stories is something I never take for granted.
Interestingly, I have a Master’s degree in Pedagogy, but photography has always been where my heart is. I simply couldn’t imagine doing anything else. These days, the beach is my office—and it’s hard to beat that. 🙂
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it was completely smooth, but it also wasn’t as difficult as I expected. The biggest hurdle was waiting for my immigration paperwork so I could officially launch my business. Beyond that, things seemed to fall into place naturally. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities that came my way and for how everything worked out.
We’ve been impressed with ZORA Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own ZORA Photography alongside my husband, Patrick. We specialize in family portraits, engagements, weddings, and maternity photography. We also love a creative challenge, so when something unique comes our way, we’re always excited to embrace it.
Our approach is centered on capturing candid, in-between moments—the genuine, unscripted emotions that feel true to who our clients are.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Practice is what makes you better. Keep shooting, get comfortable with your camera, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes along the way. Explore different photography and editing styles until you discover one that truly feels like you.
Most importantly, put yourself out there. The more you do it, the easier it becomes, and with every session, your confidence will continue to grow.
