Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaya Fischer.
Hi Chaya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Mofi because of my son. I remember how frustrating it was trying to find clothes that would actually fit him properly without needing a ton of alterations. Nothing ever felt like it was truly made for him, it was always a compromise.
As I kept shopping, I realized it wasn’t just my experience. So many moms were dealing with the same thing trying item after item, dealing with returns, tailoring, and still not really finding something that worked.
That’s really where the idea for Mofi came from. I wanted to create ready-to-wear clothing that actually fits the way it should, makes boys feel confident in what they’re wearing, and takes that frustration out of shopping for both mom and kids.
At its core, Mofi is about more than clothing it’s about acceptance and confidence. “We like you for you” really became the heart of what we’re building.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I didn’t come from a fashion background, I was in school for my MBA, so I felt comfortable on the business side of things like operations and strategy, but everything else was a learning curve.
Marketing and design were new for me, so I had to figure a lot of that out as I went. And manufacturing has probably been one of the biggest challenges, especially working overseas. Things don’t always come out exactly how you expect, so there’s a lot of back and forth, adjustments, and learning how to get it right.
Another challenge has been balancing business ownership with being a mom. When you run your own business, it’s easy for work to take over every part of your life. Learning how to manage that balance, be present for my family, and still grow a business has been an ongoing journey.
But each bump in the road has really just been a learning experience. Over time, it’s helped me grow into the brand and understand every part of the process so much better.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Mofi is a boys’ clothing brand built to solve a really simple but overlooked problem, finding well-fitting, ready-to-wear clothing for boys husky sizes that actually looks good and feels good.
We specialize in taking the frustration out of shopping for moms and kids who are constantly dealing with clothes that don’t fit, don’t work, or need alterations. Our focus is fit, comfort, and style all in one without the compromise.
What sets us apart is that Mofi was built from real-life experience, not just market research. That perspective is in every detail of what we do, from how we design our fits to how we think about confidence for kids.
What I’m most proud of is the reaction from families when shopping stops being stressful, and kids actually feel confident in what they’re wearing. That’s the real win.
At the end of the day, Mofi is about inclusion and confidence and “We like you for you” isn’t just a tagline, it’s the foundation of the brand.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
One of the biggest early risks I took was actually in my first season. My husband is a successful business owner, and his mindset was always “go big or go home,” so I came in with a lot of energy and probably went a little overboard with styles and colors right out of the gate.
The reality was that not everything sold the way I expected, and the sizing and assortment needed refining. It was a really important learning experience for me.
From there, I shifted quickly into listening mode and paying close attention to customer feedback and really understanding what was working and what wasn’t. I had to change my mindset from creating what I personally liked, to focusing on what my target customers actually want and need.
That shift completely changed how I build the brand today. It made me much more intentional, more customer-focused, and ultimately better at creating products that truly serve the people we’re designing for.
