Exploring Life & Business with Margaret Barschow-Blissenbach of Margo’s Low-Impact Health Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margaret Barschow-Blissenbach.

Hi Margaret, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in the boutique fitness industry over a decade ago, and for a long time I followed the model that was already in place: high intensity, high volume, push harder, sweat more. And while that worked on the surface, I kept noticing the same pattern in the women I was training: burnout, inflammation, inconsistency, and a feeling that their bodies were constantly fighting back.

That observation really stayed with me. I became increasingly interested in what was actually happening beneath the surface—how hormones, the nervous system, and recovery all play a role in whether a workout truly “works.” I realized that most programs weren’t designed for women, longevity or real life. They were designed for short-term output.

When I opened Margo’s Low-Impact Health Club, I knew I didn’t want to create another place people just “clocked in and out” of. I wanted to build something that could actually change someone’s life: physically, mentally, and emotionally. That meant creating a method rooted in consistency over intensity, and programming that supports the body so it can adapt instead of defend.

Today, Margo’s is more than a fitness studio. It’s a community and a system. One that blends intentional movement, recovery, and routine. We’re building something sustainable. And that shift is what’s allowed our clients to not just see results, but actually keep them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. But I think that’s part of building anything meaningful.

One of the earliest challenges was going against the grain of the industry. I had a strong belief that there was a more effective, more sustainable way to train women, but it required unlearning a lot of what’s traditionally been marketed as “fitness.” That feels risky when you’re building something from the ground up.

There have also been the natural challenges of growing a business such as refining the model, building the right team, and learning how to lead through both momentum and uncertainty. And doing all that alongside becoming a mother added a level of perspective that ultimately made both me and the business stronger.

Looking back, moments of friction don’t set us back…they set us apart. They sharpened the method, elevated the brand, and built a community that truly believes in what we’re doing. I’m deeply grateful for every part of this journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Margo’s Low-Impact Health Club is a boutique fitness studio redefining how women train. We specialize in low-impact, high-intensity workouts designed to support the body. Specifically the hormonal and nervous systems so members see results without burnout.

At the core of the brand is the Margo’s Method: a structured, rotational training system that strategically blends strength, conditioning, and recovery. Rather than chasing intensity for the sake of it, the method is designed to help the body adapt, not defend. That’s where real, lasting results come from.

What sets us apart is precision. Every class-Sculpt, Sweat, Stretch, Slide, and Step has a purpose and fits into a larger framework. It’s not random, and it’s not trend-driven. It’s a system our members can rely on, which is why they stay consistent and see measurable change.

What I’m most proud of is that we’ve built more than a studio, we’ve built a standard. Margo’s is known for delivering a workout that actually works for you, and a community that makes you want to come back.

For anyone discovering us, just know: this isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing it right.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I don’t think of myself as a natural risk-taker. I think of myself as someone who pays attention. Over time, I’ve learned the biggest risk is ignoring what you know to be true.

Starting Margo’s was a risk. Building a method that goes against industry norms is still a risk. There were moments it would have been easier (and more immediately profitable) to follow what was already working. But I just can’t shake the feeling that women deserve better. Following your conviction, even when it requires slower growth, harder conversations, and a lot of self-trust will always be worth it. Even if it feels risky.

My faith in God has been a steady anchor in this process, and my husband, Seth, has been a constant source of perspective and encouragement. Having that foundation, personally and as a family, has made it easier to take risks that are aligned.

I’ve also learned that risk isn’t always what it seems. Sometimes it looks like raising your standards, refining your model, hiring before you feel ready, or holding your ground when it would be easier to pivot. Those decisions are often the ones that move things forward.

Now, I see risk and clarity as closely tied. The clearer you are on what you’re building and why, the easier it is to take the right risks and to walk away from the wrong ones. I try to approach it with humility and responsibility to our members, our team, and the vision itself. At that point, risk becomes less about taking leaps, and more about staying aligned, even when it’s not the easiest path.
