Today we’d like to introduce you to Neisrein Mahmoud.
Hi Neisrein, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
A Story of Purpose, Partnership, and People
Some businesses begin with a plan.
Ours began with a purpose.
Neisrein and Khaled did not start their journey in healthcare. Both graduated from engineering school at Rutgers University and built their early careers in corporate America. In those years, they gained more than technical knowledge they developed discipline, systems thinking, and a deep understanding of how strong processes create strong outcomes.
But something was missing.
While corporate success brought stability, it did not bring fulfillment. That changed when Neisrein encountered the world of human services. Through her work and personal experiences with families navigating special education, she saw something that could not be ignored: progress in a child’s life was not just about programs or protocols it was about the people delivering them.
And too often, that human element was missing.
Driven by this realization, Neisrein made a bold decision. She transitioned her career entirely, earning her Master’s in Psychiatric and Mental Health Counseling and continuing on to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Professional Counselor. She further advanced her expertise as an Approved Clinical Supervisor, while also training in a whole body approach through the Tibb program in the United Kingdom.
But her journey was never just about credentials.
It was about people.
As a mother of three boys and a girl, Neisrein understands families not just professionally, but personally. She has been deeply involved in her community, volunteering for nonprofit organizations, leading fundraising efforts, building systems, and at times running full operations. She also founded a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Muslim women especially single mothers to build independence and stability for their families.
At the same time, parents she worked with began to notice something different.
Their children were progressing.
Their families felt supported.
And most importantly they felt seen.
And then came the moment that changed everything.
Parents didn’t just suggest it.
They said it clearly, urgently, and with conviction:
“We need you to start your own practice.”
Because they understood something powerful
it wasn’t just the therapy, it was her.
With Khaled’s partnership bringing his business expertise and operational strength they took that leap.
But like any meaningful journey, the beginning was not easy.
Khaled quickly recognized the weight Neisrein was carrying building something from the ground up while maintaining the level of care families had come to depend on. He made a pivotal decision that would shape the future of the organization: he stepped away from his own work for six months to serve as the Director of Operations, ensuring that the foundation of the business was as strong as the clinical care it provided.
What started as support became true partnership.
Around the same time, another life decision deepened their perspective even further. Neisrein and Khaled chose to homeschool their children. This experience became more than an educational choice it became a transformation. It gave Neisrein a deeper understanding of learning styles, curriculum development, and individualized education.
She wasn’t just practicing behavior analysis anymore
she was living education every day.
This experience sharpened her ability to design programs, understand developmental needs, and connect clinical strategies to real life learning in a way that few practitioners truly can.
And so, EMIT Therapeutics was built not just on professional expertise, but on lived experience.
From the very beginning, the mission was clear:
Quality over quantity. People over process. Values over volume.
They did not want to simply provide ABA services they wanted to raise the standard of care.
Neisrein focused on what she believed mattered most: developing clinicians. She trained new professionals with intention, mentorship, and a strong value based foundation. Over time, these professionals did not just grow they became part of the mission, evolving into stakeholders in the work they were helping build.
The business grew, but not in the traditional sense.
It grew through people.
Through trust.
Through transformation.
And with that growth came expansion.
What began as a vision is now a thriving organization, with a clinic in Voorhees and satellite locations in Spotswood and South River bringing high quality, value driven care to more families while still maintaining the personal touch that started it all.
Today, Neisrein serves as the Owner and Clinical Director of EMIT Therapeutics and Clinical Director at Spotswood Wellness Center, continuing to lead with a value based approach that integrates clinical excellence with compassion, organizational behavior management, and acceptance and commitment training.
Because at its core, this story is not about a company.
It is about a belief:
That when you invest in people
when you train with intention
and when you lead with purpose
you don’t just build a business.
You build a legacy of care.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No road to success is ever smooth and ours has been no exception.
We’ve had our share of challenges, some expected and many we could have never prepared for. But what has always grounded us is how we face them together. We meet, we tackle, and then we talk through it with humor, love, and sincerity. That has been our constant.
One of our biggest ongoing challenges has been working with third party payers, especially private insurance companies. There were times we went as long as 14 months without reimbursement for services already provided.
But we never accepted that as the outcome.
We made a decision early on that we would always fight for what was rightfully earned. We leaned into the problem, learned the system inside out, and became experts in billing, authorizations, and appeals. Over time, we built our own internal billing department to ensure accountability and persistence at every level.
And we didn’t just stop at ourselves.
We consistently tackled insurance companies until they paid, refusing to give up no matter how long it took. As a result, other providers and businesses began reaching out to us for guidance and support and we have helped them navigate the system and successfully secure reimbursements they had nearly given up on.
Through all of this, one thing never changed:
We never allowed these challenges to impact the care we provide or place stress on the families we serve.
Insurance companies may have a new story every day
but so do we and ours is persistence.
Another layer of challenge comes from the realities families are navigating. Many parents carry deep emotional burdens and trauma that directly impact their child’s progress. Fortunately, with a background in mental health counseling, we’ve been able to support not just the child, but the family as a whole helping parents process, regulate, and become stronger participants in their child’s growth.
We’ve also worked with families facing complex dynamics, including divorced parents who needed to come together and align for the sake of their child’s therapeutic success. That work requires patience, structure, and compassion but when it happens, the outcomes can be transformative.
And then there are the systemic challenges.
School districts that are not providing adequate services. Families unsure of their rights. Parents overwhelmed by processes they were never prepared to navigate. In these moments, our role extends beyond therapy we become advocates, guides, and partners, helping families find their voice and secure the support their children deserve.
None of this has been easy.
But every challenge has reinforced why we started.
Because this work isn’t just about services.
It’s about standing beside families when they need it most.
And no matter the obstacle, that is something we will never step away from.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At EMIT Therapeutics, we are an Applied Behavior Analysis ABA provider built on one core belief: quality care comes from quality people.
We specialize in providing individualized, high quality ABA services for children and families, with a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, family involvement, and long term meaningful outcomes. Our services go beyond traditional ABA we integrate behavioral science with mental health insight, parent development, and real world application to ensure progress is not just seen in sessions, but sustained in everyday life.
What truly sets us apart is our foundation.
Our leadership brings both clinical depth and operational strength. With backgrounds in engineering and corporate systems, we have built strong internal processes that allow us to deliver consistent, high quality care without losing the personal touch. At the same time, our clinical leadership is grounded in advanced training in behavior analysis, mental health counseling, and whole person approaches to care allowing us to operate with both precision and compassion.
We are especially known for:
• Developing strong clinicians not just hiring them
• High quality parent development that empowers families, not overwhelms them
• Taking a whole family approach, addressing barriers such as trauma, stress, and family dynamics
• Advocacy work, helping families navigate schools, systems, and services
• Consistency and integrity in care, regardless of external challenges
One of the areas we’ve become uniquely known for is navigating the complexities of insurance. We have faced significant delays and barriers from third party payers, including extended periods without reimbursement. Instead of allowing that to impact our services, we leaned in, became experts in the system, built our own billing infrastructure, and consistently advocated until services were paid for. That persistence has not only sustained our organization, but has also led other providers and businesses to reach out to us for guidance in securing reimbursement.
Our growth reflects our values.
We now operate a clinic in Voorhees, with satellite locations in Spotswood and South River allowing us to expand access to care while maintaining the individualized attention we are known for.
What we are most proud of, brand wise, is not just our growth but how we have grown.
We have built a culture where clinicians are trained, supported, and developed into professionals who truly understand the responsibility of this work. Many of our team members grow within the organization and become stakeholders in the mission itself.
And most importantly, we are proud that families feel the difference.
They feel heard.
They feel supported.
They see progress that matters.
We want readers to know that EMIT Therapeutics is not just a service provider.
We are partners in a family’s journey.
We are advocates when systems fall short.
We are educators when guidance is needed.
And we are committed to raising the standard of care in the ABA field without ever losing the human connection that makes the work meaningful.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We don’t see our journey as one shaped by luck alone but we do recognize that both good and bad “luck” have played a role in shaping who we are today.
The moments that may look like good luck from the outside were often the result of preparation meeting opportunity. Having the right background, the right mindset, and the willingness to take risks allowed us to recognize and act on opportunities when they came.
At the same time, what many would consider bad luck became some of our greatest turning points.
Facing major delays with insurance reimbursements, navigating complex systems, and working through challenges that could have easily discouraged us forced us to grow in ways we never expected. Those experiences pushed us to become experts in areas we never planned to master, including billing, operations, and advocacy. What initially felt like setbacks ultimately became strengths that now set us apart.
We also believe that one of the greatest forms of “good luck” in our journey has been the people.
The families who trusted us early on.
The parents who told us, “We need you to start your own practice.”
The professionals who grew with us and believed in the mission.
Those moments were not accidental they were built through connection, trust, and consistency.
If anything, luck opened doors
but it was persistence, values, and purpose that allowed us to walk through them and build something meaningful on the other side.
Today, we don’t rely on luck.
We rely on preparation, resilience, and a deep commitment to doing what’s right for the families we serve.
And if luck plays a role at all
it’s in the opportunity to continue doing this work every day.
