Today we’d like to introduce you to ABDELWAHAB RADY.
Hi ABDELWAHAB, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into the automotive industry started with a genuine passion for cars and hands-on work. From early on, I was always interested in how things worked, especially engines and mechanical systems. That curiosity led me to start working in auto shops where I learned the trade from the ground up. I spent years building experience.doing everything from basic maintenance to complex repairs.learning not just the technical side of the business but also the importance of discipline, consistency, and attention to detail.
Working in different environments taught me a lot. I saw what customers appreciated and also what frustrated them. I noticed that while many shops were good at fixing cars, not all of them focused on communication, transparency, and customer care. That stuck with me. I realized that auto repair is more than a service.it’s a trust.based relationship. People depend on their vehicles for work, family, and daily life, so they need a shop they can rely on.
With that mindset, I decided to build something of my own. I wanted to create a local shop that puts honesty first, treats every vehicle like it belongs to family, and makes customers feel respected and informed. That vision became Somerville Auto Care.
Starting the business wasn’t easy. Like any small business, it took long hours, personal sacrifice, and a lot of persistence. In the beginning, I handled almost everything repairs, customer service, scheduling, and day-to-day operations. But those challenges helped shape the culture of the shop. We built our reputation one customer at a time by delivering quality work, fair pricing, and standing behind what we do.
As the business grew, so did the team. I focused on bringing in people who shared the same values: strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and pride in doing the job right. Training and mentoring became a big part of what we do because investing in people leads to better service for customers.
Today, Somerville Auto Care is a trusted neighborhood shop serving the local community. We handle everything from routine maintenance to major repairs, always with the same goal.keep our customers safe on the road and give them confidence in their vehicle. What makes me most proud isn’t just the growth of the business, but the relationships we’ve built with customers who continue to come back and refer their friends and family.
Looking back, what started as a passion turned into a career, and that career turned into a business built on integrity, hard work, and community trust. And we’re just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but the challenges are what shaped both me and the business.
Like many small businesses, the early days were the toughest. Starting out meant long hours and wearing every hat technician, service advisor, customer support, scheduling, and management all at the same time. There were days when I’d open the shop early, work straight through repairs, and still be handling paperwork late at night. Building something from the ground up takes a lot of personal sacrifice.
Another challenge was earning trust. In the auto repair industry, some customers come in skeptical because of past bad experiences elsewhere. So we had to prove ourselves every single day by being transparent, explaining repairs clearly, charging fair prices, and standing behind our work. Reputation isn’t built overnight; it’s earned one customer at a time.
Financial pressure was also real in the beginning. Equipment, tools, parts, rent everything adds up fast. Managing cash flow while trying to grow the business required careful planning and discipline. Every investment had to make sense.
Hiring and building the right team was another learning experience. Skills matter, but mindset matters more. Finding people who take pride in their work, show up consistently, and treat customers with respect took time. But once we built the right team culture, everything improved efficiency, morale, and customer experience.
We’ve also had to adapt to constant changes in vehicle technology. Modern cars are more advanced, which means ongoing training and new diagnostic equipment. Staying current isn’t optional it’s necessary to stay competitive and provide the best service.
But every obstacle taught us something. The struggles forced us to improve our systems, strengthen our values, and stay focused on what matters most: quality work and customer trust.
Looking back, the road wasn’t easy but it was worth it. Those challenges are the reason we’re stronger today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Somerville Auto Care is a full-service automotive repair and maintenance shop built around one simple principle: take care of people first, and the business will follow. We provide everything from routine maintenance like oil changes, brakes, and tires to advanced diagnostics and major mechanical repairs. Whether it’s a quick service or a complex job, every vehicle is treated with the same level of care and attention.
What we specialize in is reliability and trust. Car trouble is stressful, and most people aren’t looking for technical jargon they want honest answers, fair pricing, and confidence that the job is done right. That’s where we stand out. We take the time to explain what’s going on with the vehicle, what’s urgent, and what can wait. Our goal is to help customers make informed decisions, not feel pressured.
We’re also known for consistency. Customers know when they come to us, they’ll get quality workmanship, clear communication, and respectful service every time. That consistency is what turns first-time visitors into long-term customers and referrals.
What sets us apart from many other shops is our culture. We focus on doing things the right way, even when it takes more time. We invest in modern diagnostic tools, ongoing training, and building a strong team that takes pride in their craft. Skill is important, but integrity and work ethic are what truly define us.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is our reputation in the community. We’ve grown through word of mouth, repeat customers, and relationships not flashy marketing. People trust us with their vehicles and recommend us to their families, and that’s something we don’t take lightly.
At the end of the day, Somerville Auto Care isn’t just about fixing cars. We’re about keeping people safely on the road, being a dependable part of the community, and delivering service that customers feel good about. When someone chooses us, we want them to feel confident they’ve found their go-to neighborhood shop.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that might surprise people is how much of our work happens behind the scenes before a customer ever sees the finished result. Auto repair can look straightforward from the outside, but there’s a lot of research, diagnostics, training, and teamwork that goes into doing a job the right way. We spend a lot of time learning new technologies, improving our systems, and making sure every repair meets our standards.
On a personal level, people often see the business owner or technician, but they don’t always see the long journey it took to get here the late nights, the risks, and the constant learning. Building this business wasn’t just a career move; it was something built step by step through persistence and commitment to doing honest work.
Another thing people might not know is how much pride we take in customer relationships. It’s not just transactions for us. Seeing familiar faces come back, watching families trust us with their vehicles over the years, and knowing we’ve built that level of trust in the community is incredibly meaningful.
At the end of the day, what may seem like “just a repair shop” is really a place built on passion, responsibility, and a genuine desire to serve people well.
