Today we’d like to introduce you to Larissa Montecuollo.
Hi Larissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Looking back, my career has never really been about marketing. It’s been about helping organizations that are doing important work communicate their purpose and connect with the people they serve.
I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of creativity, technology, and strategy. That led me to study information technology, visual arts, and visual arts administration, and throughout my career I’ve had the opportunity to work across branding, web development, user experience, and digital marketing. Each experience reinforced that effective marketing isn’t just about promoting an organization; it’s about understanding people, solving problems, and building meaningful connections.
A pivotal moment came when I met my business partner, Lou, while we were serving together on the board of a nonprofit organization. We shared a passion for helping mission-driven organizations succeed, and years later we combined our companies to form Trillion.
Today, we’re privileged to work with amazing, purpose-driven clients. Every project begins with the same question: What change are you trying to create, and how can we help you tell that story in a way that inspires action? Whether we’re developing a brand, launching a fundraising campaign, or building a digital experience, our goal is to help organizations increase their impact.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing the ripple effect. When a client raises more funding, reaches more people, or strengthens its community because of something we helped create, we know we’ve played a small part in something much bigger than ourselves. That’s what continues to motivate me after all these years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most small business owners, we’ve experienced our share of uncertainty and change. We’ve navigated economic downturns, rapid shifts in technology, changes in how people consume media, and, of course, the challenges that came with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Running a small business means you’re constantly adapting. During difficult times, you don’t have the luxury of standing still. You have to make thoughtful decisions, stay close to your clients, and continue finding ways to deliver value, even when the landscape is changing around you.
The marketing industry, in particular, has evolved dramatically over the years. We’ve gone from primarily focusing on print and traditional media to digital marketing, social media, mobile experiences, data-driven decision-making, and now artificial intelligence. Rather than viewing those changes as obstacles, we’ve embraced them as opportunities to learn, grow, and better serve our clients.
Looking back, those challenges ultimately made us stronger. They reinforced the importance of staying curious, continuing to learn, and never becoming complacent. They’ve also reminded me that business is built on relationships. During uncertain times, clients aren’t just looking for a vendor; they’re looking for a trusted partner who can help them navigate change. That’s the role we’ve always tried to play.
As you know, we’re big fans of Trillion . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Trillion, we help organizations clarify their message, strengthen their brand, and connect with the audiences that matter most. We offer a full range of marketing services, including branding, website design and development, digital marketing, advertising, content, and creative design, but we always begin with strategy. We believe great marketing starts with understanding an organization’s mission, goals, and the people it serves.
While we work with organizations across a variety of industries, we’re especially passionate about partnering with nonprofits, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and other mission-driven businesses. Many of our clients are making a real difference in their communities, and it’s a privilege to help amplify their impact.
What sets us apart is that we don’t see ourselves as an outside agency. We strive to become an extension of our clients’ teams. We take the time to understand their organization, ask thoughtful questions, and build long-term relationships based on trust. Many of our clients have been with us for years, and I think that speaks to the value of true partnership.
I’m especially proud of the work we’ve done helping clients raise millions of dollars through fundraising campaigns, launch new initiatives, strengthen their brands, and navigate periods of growth and change. Those successes aren’t about us; they’re about helping our clients achieve their missions.
As our industry continues to evolve, we’re also embracing new technologies like artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, uncover insights, and enhance the creative process. We see AI as a tool that helps us deliver even greater value while keeping the strategic thinking, creativity, and human connection at the heart of everything we do.
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to know about Trillion, it’s that we care deeply about our clients’ success. We measure our success by the impact they create. When they thrive, their communities benefit, and that’s what makes this work so meaningful.
How do you think about happiness?
Professionally, what makes me happiest is helping our clients achieve their goals. Whether it’s helping a nonprofit exceed its fundraising campaign, supporting a university in attracting students, or helping an organization tell its story more effectively, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing our work make a measurable difference. I genuinely enjoy celebrating our clients’ successes because their achievements often have a positive ripple effect in their communities.
Personally, my greatest joy comes from my children. They keep me grounded, remind me what’s truly important, and inspire me to continue learning and growing. Watching them discover who they are and supporting them as they pursue their own interests has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.
Both my work and my family have something in common: they remind me that success isn’t just about accomplishments. It’s about helping others grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.
