Hi Carlene, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Carlene Herring, and I am the Founder of Radiance Realty & Associates, a thriving New Jersey-based brokerage built on resilience, purpose, and a commitment to empowering others through real estate.
My journey began at just 23 years old when I entered the industry with uncertainty, but a deep belief that life held more for me than my circumstances. I was raised in Trenton, New Jersey, in an urban environment where resources were limited and making ends meet was a constant challenge. I did not come from generational wealth, but I quickly discovered that I had a natural gift, the ability to connect, communicate, and build trust with people from all walks of life. That gift became the foundation of my career.
With 6 years of experience as a real estate agent, 7 years as a broker and business owner, and 3 years as a licensed instructor, my path has been anything but easy. Early on, I made a decision that no matter how difficult the journey became, I would stay committed to building a better life for myself.
Two years into my career, I became a mother to my son, Jair. Faced with fear and uncertainty, I had to make a defining choice, walk away from my dreams for stability, or push forward despite the odds. I chose to turn fear into fuel. I reminded myself that success was no longer just about me, but about creating a future for my child.
At 29 years old, driven by a desire for more, I took and passed the New Jersey Broker’s Exam, becoming one of the youngest licensed brokers in the state at that time. Shortly after, in July 2019, I made another bold decision: to open my own brokerage in the heart of my hometown, Downtown Trenton. My vision was bigger than business, I wanted to show others in my community that success was possible, no matter where you start.
Today, Radiance Realty & Associates continues to thrive, now located in Hamilton Township on one of its busiest corridors. I have also expanded my impact by becoming a licensed instructor, with plans to open a pre-licensing school to help others begin their real estate careers in New Jersey.
My story is one of perseverance, faith, and determination. I built my path from the ground up, and my mission remains the same, to inspire, educate, and create opportunities not just for myself, but for others who dare to believe in more.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, the road has not been smooth, and I don’t think it was meant to be. Every challenge I faced helped shape the businesswoman and leader I am today. From starting with little resources, to navigating motherhood early in my career, to building a brokerage from the ground up, there were moments of doubt, pressure, and uncertainty. But I chose to see those moments as fuel instead of setbacks. The obstacles didn’t break me, they built me, and they’re a big part of why I stand where I am today.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Growing up, I could sit and read 2-3 books a week. Now as a busy adult I now listen to audio books since most of my time is spent on the road traveling to appts, inspections etc. Here are a few of my fav books in my library right now 1. Think and Grow Rich 2. Meditations for breaking the habit of being yourself. 3. The Power 4. Becoming Supernatural . I recommend all 4
