Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Swern.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started Lauren’s Happy Pets Pet Care because I’ve always loved animals and genuinely enjoy helping people. Pets have always been an important part of my life, from growing up with cats who lived into their twenties to having pets of my own. Today, that includes my Frenchie and my English Bulldog, who definitely keep life entertaining.
My connection to animal welfare also grew through my time at Noah’s Ark Animal Welfare Association, Inc., where I was able to be around animals, support the organization’s work, and see firsthand how much care and attention goes into helping pets and the people who love them.
Over time, I realized there were people right in my community who could use a little extra help with their pets. Maybe they were going away, had a long day at work, needed someone to stop in and check on their cat, or wanted their small dog to get some extra attention and a walk. I thought, why not combine two things I really enjoy: helping people and getting to spend time with an adorable fur kid?
That’s really how Lauren’s Happy Pets grew. I provide pet sitting, cat care, drop in visits, and care for dogs under 20 pounds in Seasons Glen in Mount Arlington and the surrounding area. And small breed puppies are so much fun. They bring so much personality, energy, and joy into every visit.
What I enjoy most is being able to make things easier for pet parents while getting to know so many sweet, funny, and completely different personalities along the way. Every pet has their own routine, quirks, favorite toys, and way of letting you know what they want, and that is one of my favorite parts of doing this.
The business has continued to grow through neighbors, referrals, and word of mouth, and I’m grateful that something rooted in my love of animals and desire to help people has grown into work I truly enjoy.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has its ups and downs. My least favorite part is probably the billing and all of the behind the scenes administrative work. It is not the fun part, but I am pretty good at it, and it is part of running a business.
One thing I have learned is that as a dog walking and cat caring professional, you learn something new every day. Every one of those four legged furry friends has a different personality, routine, preference, and way of communicating what they want.
The best parts are much easier to name. I love meeting a new client, getting that first glimpse of their furry friend’s face during a visit, seeing how happy they are while I am there, and then getting to watch them grow and get older over time. And, of course, seeing the funds hit my bank account is pretty nice too.
Those earnings also help me care for my own dogs, who are extremely expensive and have had their share of health obstacles. I am a bulldog lover at heart, with a Frenchie and an English Bulldog of my own, and I am also a huge champion of long haired cats, especially Ragdolls and Maine Coons. So even when the administrative side gets tedious, the animals make it worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Lauren’s Happy Pets Pet Care. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Lauren’s Happy Pets Pet Care is all about making life easier for pet parents while making sure their furry family members are happy, comfortable, and well cared for while they are away.
I specialize in personalized pet care, including dog walking and care for dogs under 20 pounds, cat care, drop in visits, and pet sitting in Seasons Glen in Mount Arlington and the surrounding area. I am a bulldog lover at heart, with a Frenchie and an English Bulldog of my own, and I also have a soft spot for long haired cats, especially Ragdolls and Maine Coons.
What sets my service apart is the level of care and communication I provide during every visit. I send photos so you can see your pet, along with an update about how the session went, anything I noticed that you may want to look into, and even resources if there is something you might be interested in learning more about.
I also try to leave things a little better than I found them. If bowls were used, I wash them. If paws or faces need cleaning, I take care of that. I dispose of dog waste, put toys back where they belong, and make sure leashes, harnesses, and other pet items are put away. If requested, I can empty the trash, bring in trash cans on trash day, collect mail when I can access the mailbox, and water plants.
For me, pet care is not just showing up, feeding a pet, and leaving. I want each visit to feel complete. I want your pet to have attention, affection, exercise, and a little fun, and I want you to come home knowing the details were handled.
It is also one of my favorite parts of the day. It is the time when I can leave the worries, challenges, and concerns of the day behind and just focus on that adorable, fun loving four legged pet in front of me. Sometimes it is the perfect way to start the day, sometimes it is the break I need in the middle of the day, and sometimes it is how I wind down at the end of the day.
What I am most proud of is the relationships I get to build over time. I love meeting a new pet, seeing that first glimpse of their face when I arrive, watching them enjoy our visits, learning all their funny little habits, and then getting to see them grow older over the years.
I want people to know that Lauren’s Happy Pets Pet Care is thoughtful, hands on, and personal. I am there to help make pet care one less thing you have to worry about, while I get the bonus of spending time with some pretty adorable four legged friends.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is helping people and making sure the pets I care for feel happy, comfortable, and loved while their people are away.
Pets are family, and I know how much they mean to us. I have my own Frenchie and English Bulldog, both with their share of health challenges, so I understand how much thought, care, and attention can go into looking after an animal.
I also really value the connection I get to build with each pet over time. I love seeing their face when I arrive, watching them relax and enjoy our visit, learning their routines and little quirks, and getting to see them grow older.
And selfishly, those visits mean a lot to me too. They are often the part of my day where I can leave everything else behind and just focus on a happy, adorable four legged friend. That kind of joy is hard to beat.
