My journey into photography started as a hobby. I was always interested in capturing moments and telling stories through images. What began with photographing family events, local gatherings, and friends gradually turned into a passion that I wanted to pursue professionally.
Over the years, I invested in learning the craft, improving my equipment, and gaining experience in different types of photography. As I built my portfolio, I started booking weddings, Sweet 16s, family sessions, and other special events. I quickly realized that photography was more than just taking pictures—it was about preserving memories that people would cherish for a lifetime.
Today, I own and operate Hector Rivera Photography, where I provide photography and videography services for clients throughout New Jersey and beyond. Through dedication, continuous learning, and a commitment to excellent customer service, I’ve been able to grow my business and work with many amazing families and couples. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come and excited about continuing to grow while helping clients capture some of the most important moments of their lives.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many small business owners, I faced challenges along the way, especially in the early years. Building a client base took time, and there were moments when balancing investments in equipment, education, and marketing felt overwhelming. Learning the business side of photography—pricing, contracts, customer service, and managing expectations—was just as important as mastering the technical aspects of the craft.
There were also challenges in standing out in a competitive industry and adapting to changing trends and technology. Every obstacle became a learning experience that helped me improve both as a photographer and as a business owner. Through persistence, continuous learning, and a strong commitment to my clients, I was able to keep moving forward.
Today, I own and operate Hector Rivera Photography, where I provide photography and videography services for clients throughout New Jersey and beyond. Looking back, the struggles were an important part of the journey because they taught me resilience and helped shape the business I have today.
