Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Gregg.
Hi Jennifer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey has never been linear. It has been layered.
I began in the helping field with a deep desire to understand people, pain, and resilience. With a background in Psychology and Sociology, I earned a Master’s in Behavioral Science and later returned to school to complete a second Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. That second degree was not just about credentials. It was about alignment. It was about fully stepping into who I knew I was called to be.
Early in my career, I worked as a social worker with the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency, supporting vulnerable children and families navigating trauma, instability, and systemic challenges. That experience shaped me profoundly. It taught me that healing requires both compassion and structure. It also revealed gaps in support, which inspired me to create something more personal and transformative.
Over time, I founded J. Gregg’s Journey Innovations, a space where therapy, coaching, empowerment, and practical life skills intersect. Through my practice, I support youth, adults, and families in strengthening emotional regulation, self esteem, communication, and purpose. I also facilitate workshops and professional development sessions centered on resilience, healing, and personal growth.
My work is deeply informed by my own lived experiences, including navigating personal loss and rebuilding through seasons that required faith, courage, and discipline. Those experiences refined me. They strengthened my commitment to helping others understand that healing is possible when intentionality and accountability are present.
Today, I serve as a Licensed Associate Counselor in New Jersey and continue expanding my reach through speaking, writing, and community based work. Beyond clinical practice, I am passionate about creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and empowered to choose growth even when it feels uncomfortable.
Everything I do centers on one belief. Your past does not have to dictate your future. With support, strategy, and self awareness, transformation is possible. I am grateful every day that I get to walk alongside others as they discover that for themselves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. Growth rarely is.
Like many entrepreneurs and helping professionals, I have had to build while healing. I have navigated personal loss, family trauma, financial strain, and moments of deep self doubt while still showing up for others. There were seasons where I questioned whether I was strong enough, prepared enough, or equipped enough to carry both my personal responsibilities and my professional calling.
Returning to school for a second master’s degree while already established in my career required humility and resilience. Starting over academically after years in the field was not easy. There were long nights, difficult exams, and moments where balancing work, life, and identity felt overwhelming. Passing my licensure exam was not a straight line either. It required perseverance and the willingness to try again.
Entrepreneurship itself has been a journey of faith and discipline. Building a brand, establishing credibility, navigating systems, and advocating for fair opportunities can be exhausting. There are challenges that come with serving high needs families, managing emotional weight, and maintaining your own wellness while holding space for others.
Another challenge has been boundaries. As someone who genuinely cares, learning that I cannot save everyone, fix every system, or carry every burden was a hard but necessary lesson. I had to learn that sustainability requires structure, clarity, and self respect.
What I have learned through every obstacle is that resilience is not about avoiding hardship. It is about choosing growth when hardship shows up. Each struggle strengthened my voice, sharpened my purpose, and deepened my compassion.
The road has not been smooth, but it has been meaningful. And I would not trade the lessons it has taught me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Licensed Associate Counselor, life coach, and founder of J. Gregg’s Journey Innovations, a counseling and empowerment practice based in New Jersey. My work centers on helping youth, adults, and families strengthen emotional regulation, self awareness, communication, and personal accountability.
I specialize in working with individuals navigating trauma, grief, family conflict, identity development, and major life transitions. Much of my work focuses on youth who are struggling with emotional dysregulation, self esteem challenges, and behavioral concerns. I also support caregivers who are overwhelmed and trying to create healthier environments for their children while managing their own stress.
I consider myself a lifelong learner. Continuing education, professional development, and personal growth are non negotiables for me. I recently completed my second master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling to ensure I am equipped with current knowledge and best practices. I am constantly refining my skills, attending trainings, and expanding my understanding so that I can serve my clients with both excellence and integrity.
What I am known for is creating structured, emotionally safe spaces. I combine compassion with clarity. My approach is warm, yet direct. Clients often share that they feel supported and challenged in ways that promote meaningful and lasting growth. I believe healing requires empathy, but it also requires accountability and practical tools.
Beyond therapy sessions, I facilitate workshops and professional development trainings centered on resilience, self leadership, and sustainable self care. I am passionate about equipping people with skills they can use beyond the session, not just insight during the hour.
What I am most proud of is the trust my clients and community place in me. I am proud of building a practice rooted in consistency, integrity, and follow through. I am especially proud when youth who once felt misunderstood begin to see themselves as capable, resilient, and worthy.
What sets me apart is that my work is both clinical and deeply human. I bring lived experience, structured strategy, and intentional energy into every space I enter. I do not just focus on symptom reduction. I focus on helping people build sustainable internal strength.
At the core of everything I do is one belief. People can heal. People can grow. And when given the right support and tools, they can choose differently for their future.
What matters most to you? Why?
Integrity in how I show up. Integrity in how I serve. Integrity in how I live when no one is watching.
In my work, people allow me into some of the most vulnerable parts of their lives. That is sacred to me. I never take that lightly. It matters that my clients feel emotionally safe, respected, and genuinely cared for.
I started doing this work because I intend to be who I needed when I was some of my youths’ ages. There were seasons in my life when guidance, emotional safety, and consistent support would have made a profound difference. I cannot change my past, but I can help shape someone else’s present. That is deeply personal for me.
Growth also matters deeply to me. Personal growth. Professional growth. Generational growth. I am committed to evolving, learning, and healing in my own life because I cannot guide others somewhere I am unwilling to go myself. That commitment to lifelong learning and self reflection allows me to serve from a place of authenticity rather than performance.
Family and legacy matter to me as well. Having experienced personal loss, I understand how fragile and precious life is. I want the work I do to outlive me. I want the youth and families I serve to create healthier cycles, stronger communication, and more emotionally aware generations.
Ultimately, what matters most is impact. Not popularity. Not titles. Impact. If someone leaves a conversation with me feeling more empowered, more aware, or more capable than they did before, then I have done what I was called to do.
That is why I do this work.
