Life & Work with Tracey Khan of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Khan.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Tracey Khan, a Guyanese, New York-based journalist whose passion for storytelling began at just 17 years old in Berbice, Guyana.

My journalism journey started at a local television station, LRTVS, where I served as a news anchor and reporter. Growing up in a small town (Rose Hall Town) in the countryside, that first opportunity opened the door to a career in media that has taken me across radio, television and digital platforms.

Over the years, I had the opportunity to work with some of Guyana’s leading media outlets, building my experience as a journalist and developing a deep appreciation for telling stories that connect with communities.

After migrating to New York, seven years ago, I continued to pursue my passion for journalism and storytelling. Since then, I have been fortunate to contribute to and work with respected media platforms, including Essence, Caribbean Life, MusicXclusives, Femi Magazine, Sheen Magazine and others.

My work has allowed me to interview artists, entertainers, community leaders and public figures, while covering major cultural and entertainment events. I have also conducted numerous on-camera and red-carpet interviews.

One of my most memorable interviews was with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, an experience that stands out among many meaningful moments throughout my career.

From starting as a young reporter in Berbice, Guyana to building a career in one of the world’s biggest media markets, my journey has been shaped by persistence, passion and a genuine love for storytelling. I remain grateful for every opportunity to tell stories, amplify voices and continue growing as a journalist.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a beautiful journey, but like anything in life, it has come with its challenges. One of my biggest challenges since moving to New York has been finding my place and building my career in a new environment. It hasn’t always been easy, but along the way, I have met so many incredible people who have supported me, opened doors and played an important role in helping me get to where I am today.

Because of those relationships and opportunities, I am now in a position to meet and interact with so many amazing people, tell their stories and hopefully inspire others through the work that I do. For me, that is one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a freelance journalist and PR consultant with a passion for storytelling, culture, beauty, entertainment and lifestyle. Through my journalism, I tell stories that highlight people, brands, businesses and experiences while bringing attention to the voices and perspectives that deserve to be heard.

As a journalist, I cover a wide range of stories, from entertainment and beauty to culture, community, entrepreneurship and lifestyle. I enjoy connecting with people, discovering their stories and turning their experiences into engaging content that informs, inspires and connects with readers.

As a PR consultant, I work with businesses, entrepreneurs, artists, public figures and brands to help build their visibility and tell their stories in meaningful ways. From developing media pitches and press materials to securing media opportunities, interviews and editorial coverage, I help clients position themselves and bring their work into the spotlight.

For me, journalism and public relations complement each other. Both are rooted in storytelling, building relationships and creating opportunities for people and brands to be seen, heard and understood. My goal is to use my experience, media relationships and passion for storytelling to help bring powerful stories and deserving individuals into the spotlight.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My humility and trust in God have always been the foundation of my journey. I believe that when you humble yourself and allow God to lead, He will make a way for you. Trusting His plan, even when I cannot see the bigger picture, has carried me through many seasons of my life.

And honestly, I’m also a little delusional, in the best possible way. I have always believed in my dreams, even when others couldn’t see the vision. That faith, determination and willingness to believe in what is possible have helped me get this far.
