Today we’d like to introduce you to Alka Sheladia.
Hi Alka, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my healthcare journey working as a nurse on a medical-surgical floor. I learned so much during those years, but I also started noticing something that stayed with me. We were very good at treating what brought a patient into the hospital, but there wasn’t always enough time to look at the bigger picture—why they were getting sick in the first place and what could possibly be done to prevent them from coming back.
I found myself wanting to know more. I wanted to understand the person behind the diagnosis, not just treat the symptoms in front of me.
While continuing to work as a nurse, I went back to school and became a Nurse Practitioner. From there, I pursued additional training in holistic, integrative, and regenerative medicine. The more I learned, the more I realized that conventional medicine and holistic care don’t have to be separate. There is a place for both, and bringing them together allows us to take a much more complete approach to a person’s health.
Over time, that belief evolved into what is now TrueHeal Wellness. I wanted to practice medicine differently—to really listen to my patients, look at the whole picture, and understand what may be contributing to their symptoms instead of only treating what was happening in that moment.
At TrueHeal, that can mean looking at nutrition and lifestyle, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, hormonal and metabolic health, stress, and other factors that can affect how someone feels. Depending on the individual, we may incorporate IV vitamin and nutrient therapy, supplements, hormone optimization, and other integrative or regenerative treatments alongside conventional medical care.
Even the name TrueHeal reflects what I believe. The human body has an incredible ability to heal, adapt, and restore itself when it is given the right environment and support. My role is to help patients understand what their body may need and give them the tools and guidance to become more proactive about their health.
TrueHeal has evolved over the years, and so have I, but the reason behind it has remained the same: I want my patients to feel heard and cared for as a whole person—not simply as a diagnosis or a list of symptoms.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Starting something on my own was intimidating. I had spent years taking care of patients, but building a practice was a completely different experience. There was a lot I had to learn along the way, and in the beginning, you always wonder if you’re making the right decision.
I think one of the biggest things for me was believing that people would understand why prevention and taking care of your health before something goes wrong is so important. Once I started having those conversations, I realized there were actually a lot of people who felt the same way. Many patients were already looking for a more personalized approach; they just didn’t always know where to find it.
TrueHeal really grew from there. Support from like-minded people helped tremendously, but my patients have probably been the biggest part of our growth. Many of them shared their experiences with friends and family, and slowly the practice grew through those relationships and referrals.
There have definitely been challenges and a lot of learning along the way, but that’s also part of building something you truly believe in. I’m still learning and evolving, and I think TrueHeal will continue to evolve with me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about TrueHeal Wellness?
TrueHeal Wellness is an integrative and regenerative wellness practice focused on helping people feel better, function better, and stay healthier as they age. A big part of what we do today is centered around prevention and longevity—not simply adding years to someone’s life, but helping them maintain their energy, strength, independence, and quality of life along the way.
Our approach really focuses on the person, with the patient at the center of their care plan. We take the time to listen to what’s going on, understand their concerns and goals, and then look at the bigger picture before deciding what approach may be right for them. Everyone is different, and even two people with similar symptoms may need very different things.
We work in areas such as hormone and metabolic health, medical weight management, IV vitamin and nutrient therapy, peptide and regenerative therapies, sexual wellness, nutritional support, and longevity medicine. We also use comprehensive lab testing when appropriate to help us better understand what’s happening within the body and identify areas that may need more attention.
One thing I’m especially passionate about is helping people understand that they don’t have to wait until they’re sick to start paying attention to their health. There is so much we can do earlier by looking at things like metabolic health, hormones, nutrient levels, lifestyle, body composition, sleep, stress, and other factors that can influence how we feel and how we age.
What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built with our patients. I never want someone to feel like we’re simply trying to sell them a treatment. Sometimes a treatment or therapy may be appropriate, but other times it may be about improving nutrition, correcting a deficiency, making lifestyle changes, or simply taking the time to understand what’s really going on.
TrueHeal has continued to grow and evolve as I’ve learned more and as medicine itself continues to evolve. I want our patients to feel comfortable asking questions, learning about different options, and being involved in decisions about their own health. At the end of the day, I want TrueHeal to be a place that helps people take a more proactive role in their health and feel supported throughout that journey.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think what might surprise people is that I never really planned for TrueHeal to become what it is today. I never had this big vision that one day I would build a practice offering the kind of care I always felt was needed in the community.
It happened little by little. I kept learning, asking questions, and finding different ways we could do more for our patients. Somewhere along the way, that turned into TrueHeal.
Sometimes I look at the practice today and think about where it all started, and it’s pretty amazing to me too. What began as simply wanting to provide a different kind of care has grown into something I never really imagined in the beginning.
