Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Kowalski.
Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I actually started college planning to become a teacher, but something never fully felt aligned. Toward the end of my college career, I began exploring other options and discovered aesthetics. Which, at the time, I didn’t even realize you could go to school specifically for. I decided to take a chance, and I enrolled in aesthetics school at 23.
I’ve always been a creative person, and while I didn’t know exactly where aesthetics would take me, I was curious and ready to learn. Once I started school, I completely fell in love with skincare; the artistry, the science, and the impact it can have on how someone feels.
After graduating, I spent time working in a variety of spa and waxing environments. While I gained valuable experience, I still felt like I hadn’t quite found my place. That led me into medical aesthetics, where I worked in a dermatologist’s office for about three years. Working closely with doctors gave me a much deeper understanding of the skin and the science behind it, and that experience truly shaped the way I approach treatments today.
When COVID hit, the industry came to a halt, and I found myself at a turning point. During that time, I had some big conversations and made the decision to take a leap and start my own business. I wanted to create something that felt fully aligned with me; something intentional, elevated, and my own. That’s when I created The Petite Aesthetician.
I opened my doors with a very simple start: offering full body waxing, and with zero clients. I relied on patience, consistency, and word of mouth. Slowly, people became curious, and over time, my books began to fill. From there, I expanded into brows and facials, and the business continued to grow in a very organic way. Eventually, I brought on my first employee, who is still with me today, and we continued to build from there. Our team grew, our service offerings expanded, and we even moved into a larger space next door that truly reflects the energy and experience I always envisioned.
Now, six years in, I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve built, a team of talented aestheticians and a space that feels both results-driven and welcoming for our clients. More than anything, this journey has taught me the importance of trusting yourself, even when the path isn’t clear, and allowing things to unfold as they’re meant to. When you pursue something that truly sets your heart and soul on fire, and you stay consistent in that, it has a way of guiding you exactly where you’re meant to be.
This is going to be a really big year for The Petite Aesthetician, and I’m really excited for what’s next.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Nothing ever really is when you’re building something from the ground up. Being a business owner comes with constant highs and lows, and at times those shifts can happen quickly, even within the same day. There are moments of uncertainty, challenges in growth, and times where you’re learning in real time how to navigate decisions you’ve never had to make before. But I think that’s also what shapes you. It pushes you to become more resilient, more adaptable, and more confident in your ability to figure things out.
It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you have the drive and determination, and you truly care about what you’re building, you learn to embrace the ups and downs as part of the process. In many ways, those challenges are what make the wins feel even more meaningful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Petite Aesthetician?
The Petite Aesthetician is a results-driven skincare studio rooted in intention, education, and a truly personalized approach to skin health. We specialize in customized facial treatments, full body waxing, brow services, and lash lifts, each service thoughtfully designed to enhance natural features while supporting the long-term health of the skin.
What sets us apart is the way we approach skincare. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all treatments or quick fixes. Every service is guided by a deep understanding of the skin, combining both corrective and restorative techniques to create real, lasting results. My background working alongside dermatologists has heavily influenced this approach, allowing us to bridge the gap between relaxation and results in a way that feels both elevated and approachable.
We’re also known for creating an environment that feels calm, welcoming, and intentional. From the moment a client walks in, the goal is for them to feel taken care of, not just through the service itself but through the entire experience. It’s skincare that allows you to slow down, reset, and feel confident in your skin.
Brand wise, what I’m most proud of is how organically everything has grown. From starting with zero clients to building a loyal community and a team of talented aestheticians, every step has been built on trust, consistency, and genuine care. We’ve stayed true to who we are; never chasing trends, but instead focusing on what truly benefits our clients. At the core of the brand is the belief that skincare should feel supportive, not overwhelming. Our role is to guide, educate, and create a space where clients feel confident in their skin and in the care they’re receiving.
As we continue to grow, we’re moving into a new chapter. Expanding not just our services, but the overall experience of the brand. And while things may evolve, our foundation will always remain the same: skincare that is guided with intention and grounded in serenity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think what people often call “luck” is really a combination of timing, preparation, and the willingness to take a chance. There have definitely been moments that felt like good luck, finding the right location in my town, meeting the right people at the right time, or even starting my business when I did. Opening during such an uncertain time could have easily been seen as bad luck, but in many ways, it created the space for something new to grow.
At the same time, there have been challenges that didn’t feel lucky at all, moments of uncertainty, starting with zero clients, and navigating an industry that can be unpredictable. But those experiences pushed me to become more resourceful, more patient, and more confident in my vision.
I’ve learned that “luck” tends to meet you when you’re willing to keep showing up, stay consistent, and trust the process even when things aren’t immediately working in your favor. So while I’m grateful for the moments that have felt like luck, I really believe that the foundation of my business has been built on intention, resilience, and a genuine passion for what I do.
