Meet Geoff Horn of New Jersey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geoff Horn.

Hi Geoff, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started tattooing in 2005 around the same time I graduate from Montclair State University. After working at the shop for years doing other tasks I had the opportunity to tattoo. A few years later I began to travel the world doing conventions and guest spots.
In 2009 I opened up Hole in the Sky Tattoo, with a concept different than all other shops in the area. After years studying traditional Japanese tattooing i decided to make my first trip to Japan. On this trip I met my future master Horikyo. We began a relationship and over the next few years I was making repeated trips studying not only his works, but also tebori, the traditional way of tattooing in Japan by hand. To this day I am the only non Japanese member of the Horikyo ichimon and tattoo six days a week in my studio.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Tattooing like most ventures, have there ups and downs. Fortunately, very little rattles me, but the interpersonal relationships tend to fall apart. I am very fortunate to have the most solid team with Danny Santos and Mike Geraldo at the shop.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in large scale traditional Japanese tattooing. I am
The only member of the Horikyo family that is not Japanese and I am the only person in the state doing tebori

What are your plans for the future?
We have been doing work on the shop updating art in the lobby and other places.
The future we would love to expand
