Today we’d like to introduce you to Jody Boehmer.
Hi Jody, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I didn’t start out with a master plan, this began as a hobby. I discovered a website that offered products in exchange for honest reviews, and I genuinely enjoyed testing and writing about things I was already using in my everyday life. What started as curiosity quickly turned into consistency.
Over time, I began sharing products and experiences across different social platforms, which naturally led to creating my blog, LifeByJody.com. As my audience grew, so did my understanding of content, storytelling, and what brands actually need to connect with consumers. I started investing more time into photography, writing, and learning the business side of digital marketing.
Eventually, what began as a side hustle evolved into my full-time work. Today, I collaborate directly with brands and agencies to create licensed media, reviews, and campaign content across beauty, wellness, and lifestyle. It’s been a steady, natural progression. I turned something I loved doing in my spare time into a professional, creative business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is ever completely smooth, and this one certainly hasn’t been. Like any independent career, there have been plenty of ups and downs … periods of growth followed by burnout, moments of momentum followed by the challenge of finding balance again.
Some of the biggest struggles have come from the behind-the-scenes realities of the work. I’ve had to reshoot content multiple times due to unclear brand direction, experienced being ghosted after delivering work, and unfortunately, dealt with delayed or missing payments early on. This isn’t a team sport, so when challenges arise, you often have to navigate them on your own.
I quickly learned that this career is far more than taking a photo or posting a video. I’ve invested in seminars, workshops, and paid courses to understand digital marketing, contracts, usage rights, exclusivity, pricing, and negotiation. Learning how to advocate for yourself and value your work is a process, especially in an industry that’s still evolving.
I’ve pushed myself far outside my comfort zone more times than I can count, but those challenges have been instrumental in my growth. While the road has been rocky at times, it’s also been incredibly rewarding, and each obstacle has helped shape a more sustainable and intentional business for me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work centers around creating licensed media and brand partnerships for beauty, wellness, and lifestyle brands. I specialize in product photography, UGC, and campaign-ready content that brands can use across social, digital, and paid platforms. While I do have my own platform through LifeByJody.com, much of my work also happens behind the scenes … creating assets brands rely on long after a post goes live.
What I’m most known for is translating products into content that feels approachable, thoughtful, and real. I focus on clarity and credibility, showing how products fit into everyday life rather than overselling them. My background in graphic design and visual storytelling gives me a strong foundation in composition, detail, and creative direction, which sets my work apart in an industry that often prioritizes speed over quality.
What I’m most proud of is building a sustainable, independent business from the ground up, one rooted in professionalism, adaptability, and trust. I’ve taken the time to learn the business side of content creation, from usage rights and contracts to negotiation and strategy, which allows me to collaborate confidently with both brands and ad agencies.
What truly sets me apart is longevity. I didn’t arrive overnight … I evolved alongside the industry. That experience allows me to approach my work with intention, structure, and a long-term mindset, creating content that’s not just visually appealing, but genuinely useful for the brands I work with.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is continued growth and the ability to evolve. I’ve seen how much social media and digital marketing have changed over the years, and staying relevant means being willing to adapt, learn, and push past your comfort zone. While financial stability is important, long-term sustainability and evolving with the industry matter most to me.
