Meet Stefani M.C. Janelli of The MIC Music Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefani M.C. Janelli.

Stefani M.C., we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, my love of music started back as far as I can remember. Listening to The Doors and Beatles records with my dad. I took guitar lessons growing up, played the flute in band, and eventually began to teach flute and guitar lessons. I received my associate’s degree in guitar performance, and then made my way to Ramapo College, where I majored in Music with a double concentration in Music Industry and Music Studies.

During my senior year, I combined my two loves, writing and music, into my capstone project. During that time, I created The MIC NJ music blog. I began writing about anything and everything I wanted to, as long as it was about music. As I began writing, classmates and local musicians began reaching out asking to be featured and interviewed, and that’s when my love of independent music and the local music scene blossomed. John Mayer doesn’t need me to write another article about his hit record, but those smaller, independent musicians that you’re in classes with, or you see playing at the local bar, they need a spotlight. They need someone to share their story.

After college, I began working on an independent artist’s management team. There, I wore just about every hat there was. During my time there, I learned that the artists I write about in my music blog go through the same issues this artist was going through. Many artists just want to create music; they don’t want to worry about the admin side. They might not even know the admin side or how to copyright their songs. I wanted to be able to work hands-on with multiple artists, offering them a variety of À La Carte and packaged services that were flexible, unlike a label. That’s when, at the top of 2024, The MIC Music Group was born.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, of course not! But that’s the fun of it.

Being able to have your own business gives you flexibility and freedom, but it also comes with an array of challenges along the way. It’s a lot of lonely hours grinding behind the scenes for small wins that hardly anybody sees.

But some of the biggest struggles have been time management, being a one-woman show, and a lack of funding.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The MIC Music Group?
Established in 2020, The MIC (The Music Insight Column) began as a music blog featuring interviews, music reviews, and artist profiles across its website, social media platforms, and YouTube series.
In 2024, The MIC Music Group expanded its offerings with The MIC Mag, an online magazine, and introduced enhanced label services, PR, and promotional packages—all part of an ongoing mission to support independent and emerging artists by providing the tools and resources they need to succeed on their own terms.

We are most proud of the tools we give independent artists. Artists from a variety of backgrounds and genres can come to The MIC MG with any budget, big or small.
