Conversations with Tomika Reid

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tomika Reid.

Hi Tomika, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I enjoyed reading. I journaled, wrote songs, and poems but never imagined doing anything with them. After going through many losses, trials, and tribulations, a childhood friend told me I should write a book. I was unsure about it—looked into it but didn’t take it seriously until I received a phone call from my eldest daughter’s aunt. In the middle of the conversation, she said, “The spirit is telling me to tell you to write.” It was only then that I decided to write a book, share my story, inspire others, never give up, make an impact on a person’s life, and let them know—You Are Not Alone.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the road wasn’t smooth. Juggling between being a single mom, work, and chasing a dream I never planned for wasn’t easy, there were obstacles, setbacks and times when I thought I wasn’t doing enough, but God, my daughters, and the momentum of just being in a position to inspire others and make an impact gives me a purpose; I will never give up. I am Still Standing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a writer, it’s what I love and enjoy doing.

I am known for inspiring others and self-publishing six books; two children’s books, an inspirational book of poems and quotes, a teen and tween book for girls, a memoir, and a short thriller.

I am most proud of becoming an Author and narrating my first audiobook. It’s a huge accomplishment for me because it’s something I never imagined doing.

What sets me apart from others is the life experiences that broke me but I’ve decided to turn that brokenness into something greater. It made me who I am today, using my talent as a writer to write books in different genres with a message, suitable for each reader who comes across my work.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as when one can make a difference; an impact on a person’s life.
