Rising Stars: Meet Harsh Kumar Shakti of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harsh Kumar Shakti.

Hi Harsh kumar, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Harsh Kumar Shakti, an actor with 12 years of experience in film and theatre. I’ve worked in Bollywood, Tollywood, and Bhojiwood industries, and made my NY stage debut with “Katha – The Indian Story”.

I trained at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute and have played lead roles in various productions in India and the USA. I’ve also worked as a production manager, brand ambassador, and model.

A big step was moving to the US for acting opportunities, which opened up new doors and exposed me to diverse people and experiences.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nah, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. As an actor, you’ve gotta be ready for rejection and uncertainty. Moving to the US was a big leap, and adjusting to a new country, culture, and industry wasn’t easy. I had to start from scratch, build a new network, and figure out the system here.

There were times when I doubted myself, struggled to find gigs, and faced financial instability. But, I’ve learned to roll with the punches and focus on my craft. My experience in India helped, but it’s a different ball game here. I’ve had to adapt, learn, and grow – a lot.

The biggest struggle’s been balancing my artistic ambitions with the practical realities of living in a new country. But, hey, the struggles make the wins sweeter.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist. working in theatre, film, and TV . I specialize in character-driven roles and have played protagonists in various productions. Some of my notable works include the Bollywood movie “Khwab Sare Jhootey” and my NY stage debut with “Katha – The Indian Story”.

I’m proud of my versatility – I’ve worked in multiple languages (Hindi, Telugu, Bhojpuri) and genres (drama, comedy, musicals). My training at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute has helped me bring depth to my characters.

What sets me apart? I’d say it’s my passion for storytelling and connecting with audiences. I’ve also got a diverse background – acting, production management, modeling brand ambassadorship – which gives me a unique perspective.

Most proud of? Probably my ability to adapt and grow in this crazy industry. Acting’s not just about talent; it’s about perseverance and being open to learning.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you’re just starting out, I’d say go for it, but be prepared for the ups and downs. Don’t get too caught up in the “destination” – focus on the process, learn from every experience, and stay hungry. A few things I’d tell my younger self: network, but don’t force it; genuine connections matter. Take risks and step out of your comfort zone (like I did moving to the US!). Your unique experiences and perspective are strengths, not weaknesses. Be kind to yourself; rejection’s part of the game. Most importantly, enjoy the journey and keep pushing your craft.
