Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Hunter.
Jessica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
A lot of people take pain and turn it into something happy, and that’s exactly what I did. I was young, and still testing the waters of the world. I made a lot of careless mistakes, and then being diagnosed with a seizure disorder that changed my whole world. I used to sit and write my emotions in a book that was found and torn into pieces. From that day forward, I stopped writing, and started reciting. A close friend of mind saw potential in me, and encouraged me to open a website sharing my stories. I did just that, and started networking, doing stand-up poetry, and helping my community, especially the youth. Where I’m from, there was just too many kids who needed a eye-opener, support, and to stay off of the streets. What better way to show them how by leading by example? Now, I’m in a different community, and actually taking care of kids, so it is my duty to show them how to lend a helping hand, learn, and lead by example.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding out who I truly was wasn’t the hard part, it was accepting it. I turned that person into Literaturebyjessc, which is known as a person who brings the crowd together, and keeps everyone informed on the latest movements of businesses and artist, not just in the youth, but all around. You are always going to come across trials and tribulations, people wondering why you are doing the things you are doing, and how far you are actually going to take it. That part isn’t always a bad thing, because there are people who want to help, and there are people who need help, but are afraid to ask for help. The struggles can sometimes come from your own people, or the ones who are actually supposed to protect you, which I have experienced, and documented during a donation drive. I’ve been profiled for wearing sweatpants and a bonnet one day while visiting a donation drive to drop off socks and almost got arrested based on a description that fit a female who had done something wrong in a store near by. Where I was dropping the donations off, a lady vouched for me stating she literally witnessed me getting off a bus from my town and walking right into her shop which is no longer open. It’s the little things that can become a big issue and make you not want to continue, but I did, because people need to see that it’s okay to keep trying.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I go by the name of Literaturebyjessc simply because I started off doing writing and poetry. Eventually due to networking, I expanded and started blogging. I didn’t just vlog and blog about myself, but others, the community, the youth, and events. People outside of my town needed to be informed, somebody else needed to hear my story instead of those in town. Someone else needed to hear about the youth, artist, jersey club and what is going on in the community, that includes good and bad. This inspires people to keep pushing, no matter what they are going through.
I have earned my Bachelors in Entrepreneurship not knowing exactly what I wanted to do with it, but I wanted to show others that you can still do anything you put your mind to no matter what. If I am disabled, and able you are too. That’s the example I continue to share via my website, and networking. It works out absolutely amazing to where I have people emailing me, or in zoom groups explaining how strong I am, and asking questions about my story that can help them.
What sets me apart from others is when I see people doing the right things, for the wrong reasons. If you’re going to be great, do it with the right intentions, not for clout. Carry the word of the most high, and deliver your greatness with pride, deliver it in a way that is presentable for the youth, for yourself, so when you sit back, someone can say “I am who I am because of you,” with pride, and a changed mindset and demeanor, that way they continue to lead and so on.
I’m most proud of the way I carry myself, the way I carry this name. I live up to change, I am open to working on or with whatever is going on to make someone or something better. There is always someone watching your every move. What appears to be them doing it in a bad way, can turn into a positive way even if you’re not the loudest one clapping for that person/people, you’re in the back doing it. No matter the distance or time, someone will know you were the force behind the wind.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
As far as change within me, Angels Of Epilepsy, has helped motivate me a lot because I felt alone in a world so big, yet not many people have the same condition as I. The whole Jersey Club community has added to my success just by the constant push of getting back into writing and producing. So I would have to definitely thank Opxra, Urban, Jheat, the whole Jersey Label, High Noble, the youth, the community, and I cannot forget about Mike V. No Matter what It was that I was doing, they always seen something in me allowing them to be the force behind the wind. Whether it be a phone call, a text, a favor, an ear, I’ve always had a steady support system even if something was wrong. Definitely tune into “thisisjerseyclub,” where you’ll finnd a lot about the Jersey Club community via instagram, and “Theonlycollectivemg,” as well as Jersey Label.
