Inspiring Conversations with Dr. Carolyn Snyder of C Snyder Counseling & Wellness,LLC & Snyder Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Carolyn Snyder.

Hi Dr. Carolyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For years, I worked in the corporate world and genuinely loved helping people, but deep down I always knew mental health and healing work was where I was meant to be. Like many people, practicality won for a while. I was making good money, and leaving that behind didn’t seem to make sense… until life made the decision for me.

During my divorce, I stepped away from corporate life and opened a massage therapy practice, which became an important chapter in understanding how deeply connected the mind and body really are. It was also where my path into alternative healing and energy work became much stronger. Later, I remarried, and life took another unexpected turn when I was in a serious car accident that led to significant PTSD and eventually spinal fusion surgery. Physically, massage therapy was no longer something I could continue, but that experience pushed me even further toward the work I was truly meant to do.

That season changed everything.

I still remember driving to therapy the morning 9/11 happened and realizing there were going to be so many people carrying trauma far heavier than my own. It was a turning point for me. I knew I needed to stop waiting and fully step into the work I felt called to do.

So I did. Spine fused, backpack with wheels and all, I went back to school and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, specializing in health and mental health. I developed a strong passion for working with veterans and spent time working with them through the VA before moving into private practice with a psychologist.

What became clear to me over time was that my own healing, and the healing I saw in others, never came from treating just one piece of the person. Real healing happened through mind, body, and spirit together. Traditional environments often left little room for that, so I built my own practice around treating the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

Alternative healing has remained a major part of my work for more than 30 years. I continued expanding into hypnotherapy, energy work, nutrition for mental wellness, and other integrative approaches because I believe true healing happens when we treat the whole human being, not just symptoms on a chart.

Today, I lead a team of like-minded clinicians who each bring their own strengths, but all share the same philosophy: meet people where they are, and help them heal as whole people.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but honestly, I think that is what makes me better at what I do.

Life has a way of teaching you things no textbook ever could. Between divorce, rebuilding, remarriage, a serious car accident, PTSD, spinal fusion surgery, and learning how to navigate both personal healing and professional reinvention, there were plenty of seasons that forced me to slow down, reevaluate, and start again.

One of the biggest challenges was learning that healing is rarely linear. As someone who helps others for a living, it can be humbling to find yourself on the other side of that process. Going through my own trauma gave me a much deeper understanding of what it means to feel stuck, overwhelmed, and unsure of how to move forward. It also taught me that strength is not about pretending everything is fine. It is about being willing to do the work.

Professionally, another challenge was building a business that truly reflected my philosophy. Traditional mental health spaces can sometimes focus too heavily on symptom management and diagnosis, while I have always believed people deserve more than that. I wanted to create a place where mind, body, and spirit were all part of the conversation, and where people felt seen as whole human beings, not just a chart or a label.

Building that kind of practice takes courage, boundaries, and a willingness to trust yourself, especially when your path does not look like everyone else’s. But looking back, every difficult chapter shaped the work I do now, and I would not trade that perspective for anything.

We’ve been impressed with C Snyder Counseling & Wellness,LLC & Snyder Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
C Snyder Counseling & Wellness, LLC and Snyder Wellness were both built from the same philosophy: true healing happens when we treat the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

At C Snyder Counseling & Wellness, we provide traditional mental health services with a deeper, more integrative approach. We work with children, adults, couples, veterans, first responders, and families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in health and mental health, my focus has always been helping people understand that mental wellness is never just “in your head.” The nervous system, the body, past experiences, relationships, and even physical health all play a role.

Snyder Wellness allows me to expand beyond the traditional therapy model into complementary healing practices like hypnotherapy, energy work, nervous system regulation, wellness coaching, and mind-body-spirit education. It gives people another doorway into healing, especially for those who know they need more than symptom management and are looking for deeper transformation.

What sets us apart is that we do not believe in one-size-fits-all healing. We meet people where they are. Sometimes that looks like clinical therapy. Sometimes it looks like trauma work, mindset shifts, nervous system support, or helping someone reconnect with themselves after years of survival mode.

I am most proud of building a practice where people feel safe enough to be honest and supported enough to actually change. Our goal is not just helping people function. It is helping them heal, grow, and create a life that feels aligned, peaceful, and truly their own.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I tend to pull inspiration from a mix of psychology, wellness, spirituality, and real-life experience rather than following just one source.

I enjoy books that focus on human behavior, trauma healing, mindset, and nervous system regulation because they help me both personally and professionally. I’m especially drawn to work around mind-body connection, emotional healing, and understanding how past experiences shape present behavior.

I also value resources that support the spiritual side of healing, whether that is meditation, mindfulness practices, energy work, or authors who explore personal growth from a deeper perspective. Some of the most meaningful lessons have honestly come from life itself, from clients, veterans, parents, couples, and people learning how to heal and rebuild.

As far as daily tools, I rely heavily on practical systems like scheduling platforms, journaling, and quiet reflective time more than specific apps. Sometimes the best resource is simply creating enough stillness to listen to what your mind and body are trying to tell you.
