Hidden Gems: Meet Xachil Joachin of From We Can’t to We Can

Today we’d like to introduce you to Xachil Joachin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a first-generation Mexican-American whose passion for supporting my community began in high school. What started as volunteering at a small event quickly grew into a deeper commitment, leading me to become a Volunteer Coordinator and later a board member for a well-recognized nonprofit organization in South Jersey. Through this work, I’ve also become an advocate for a variety of community-focused initiatives.

I am currently pursuing a degree in Business Management at Rowan University after earning my associate’s degree in Business Administration from Rowan College of South Jersey. My goal is to use the knowledge and skills from my education to strengthen and grow organizations, helping them reach their full potential. I also plan to continue my education by pursuing a master’s degree in accounting to further support this mission.

In addition, I serve as Miss Gloucester County Volunteer, using my platform to bring awareness to organizations such as From We Can’t to We Can. I also lead my own initiative, V for S: The Voice for the Silent, where I advocate for survivors of sexual assault and harassment by sharing information, encouraging open conversations, and creating space for others to speak out. During my senior year, I also served as the Public Relations Chair for It’s On Us at Rowan University, helping promote a culture of consent on campus through events and outreach.

Overall, my journey has been shaped by a strong commitment to service, advocacy, and using both my voice and professional skills to make a meaningful impact in my community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think many Latinx, first-born, first-generation individuals can relate to the pressure that comes with expectations. I experienced this myself, constantly striving for perfection and trying to meet every standard placed in front of me. Over time, I realized that this mindset was taking a toll on me, and I began to develop anxiety throughout that journey.

Last year, in particular, was one of the most challenging times in my life. I experienced the loss of my grandfather, who continues to be a major source of inspiration behind my educational and personal goals. At the same time, I was dealing with ongoing health issues that required constant medical attention, which began to affect my academic confidence. There were moments where I questioned whether I should continue my education at all, as I started to feel like I was falling short.

Through it all, my family has been my strongest support system. They remind me every day that perfection isn’t the goal, but rather doing your best and embracing the lessons that come with failure. Their support has grounded me and continues to motivate me to keep moving forward. Everything I do is rooted in that support and the desire to make them proud while staying true to myself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about From We Can’t to We Can?
At From We Can’t to We Can, my role as Volunteer Coordinator focuses on creating inclusive and meaningful experiences that truly support the community. The organization is centered around helping families, especially those with special needs, by providing safe, welcoming spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and included. My role is to help bring those experiences to life by organizing volunteers and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

I specialize in volunteer management, from recruiting and assigning roles to ensuring each person feels prepared, supported, and appreciated. Whether it’s a large community gathering or a smaller activity, I focus on creating structure while still allowing space for genuine connection. A big part of what I do is making sure volunteers understand the impact they’re making and feel motivated to continue being involved.

What sets us apart as an organization is our genuine commitment to inclusivity and community. We don’t just host events, we create environments where families can feel comfortable, supported, and celebrated. Everything we do is rooted in compassion and intention, and that’s something I carry into my role every time I support our initiatives.

What I’m most proud of is being part of something that brings real joy to families and builds a strong sense of belonging. Seeing volunteers come together and knowing that we’re making a difference is what makes this work so meaningful. I want readers to know that From We Can’t to We Can is more than an organization, it’s a community built on support, inclusion, and the belief that everyone deserves a place where they belong.

How do you think about happiness?
My family is what makes me happiest. I’m very family-oriented, and so many of my best memories are with them, whether it’s the small everyday moments or the bigger milestones we’ve shared together. They’ve played a huge role in shaping who I am today, from my values to my work ethic and the way I show up for others. What makes it even more meaningful is the constant support and love they give me. They remind me to stay grounded, to keep going when things get hard, and to not be so hard on myself. Being around them brings me a sense of comfort and peace that I can’t really find anywhere else, and it’s that feeling that motivates me in everything I do.
