Exploring Life & Business with Anthony Da Silva of Blue Dragon Home Repair LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Da Silva.

Hi Anthony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started with my grandparents, who raised me from a young age because my parents were never involved in my life. They taught me that nothing in life is handed to you—you have to work hard for everything you want. Those old-school values of discipline, honesty, and perseverance are principles I still live by today.

I started working when I was 16 years old, carrying bricks and driving for a masonry company. The work was physically demanding, but it taught me the value of hard labor and responsibility. Over the years, I worked in many different industries, including banking, fish markets, and trucking, picking up skills and life lessons everywhere I went.

Even while working those jobs, I always knew I wanted to be my own boss. I took everything I had learned along the way and used it to build my own construction business. Through determination, long hours, and a willingness to keep learning, I turned that dream into reality, and I’ve been building my business ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been anything but a smooth road. When I first started my company, I had a business partner who brought more field experience while I handled the office and business side. Unfortunately, after only three months, I had to part ways with him because of a drinking problem. Suddenly, I was forced to learn every aspect of the construction business on my own while trying to keep the company alive.

Over the years, I’ve dealt with just about every challenge imaginable. I’ve had customers refuse to pay after work was completed, had tools stolen, trucks break down, equipment fail, and projects delayed because of permits, inspections, or funding issues. Running a construction company means solving problems every single day.

The biggest challenge, though, has been the workload. There were days when I started at 6:00 in the morning, worked until 12:30 at night, and then got up the next morning to do it all over again. And the work doesn’t end when you leave the job site—you still have bookkeeping, estimates, scheduling, customer calls, and everything else that comes with owning a business.

People often only see the successes. They see the finished projects and the growth, but they don’t see the 12- or 14-hour days, the sacrifices, the setbacks, or the stress behind the scenes. Building a business has never been easy, but every obstacle has made me stronger and taught me valuable lessons that continue to shape who I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Blue Dragon Home Repair LLC?

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the construction and home improvement industry will continue to evolve over the next 5 to 10 years, especially when it comes to design trends and technology. One of the things I’ve learned is that styles are always changing. Years ago, carpet was in almost every home, and now many homeowners prefer hardwood or luxury vinyl flooring. Small tile designs have given way to larger format tiles, and colors and finishes are constantly evolving. It’s impossible to predict exactly what’s going to be popular years from now, but that’s part of what makes this industry exciting.

I’m also excited to see how technology continues to improve the way we work. Tools have become more advanced, more accurate, and more accessible than ever before. From laser measuring devices and digital layout tools to battery-powered equipment, technology allows contractors to work faster and deliver better results with greater precision.

I don’t think artificial intelligence will replace skilled tradespeople in the field anytime soon, but I do believe it will have a significant impact on the business side of construction. AI and estimating software will likely make pricing more transparent and consistent, giving customers a better understanding of costs and helping contractors streamline their operations.

What excites me most, though, is the creativity of homeowners. Every project is different, and I enjoy taking a customer’s vision and turning it into reality. As trends continue to change and new technologies emerge, I believe the industry will become even more innovative, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that evolution.
