Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Bussiere.
Hi Jordan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had an affinity for beauty and art, but never actually planned on becoming a wedding photographer. During the 2020 covid lockdown, I found myself looking for a new creative outlet to fill my extra free time. When I came across a used camera on Facebook marketplace, I decided to pick it up, having no idea that a simple purchase would grow into the career I have today.
What started out as a hobby quickly led to paid gigs since a lot of my peers wanted graduation photos. From there, I started shooting absolutely everything I could! When I realized I’m drawn to capturing both posed portraits and real moments, I narrowed my focus to wedding photography, because it allows me to photograph a little bit of everything.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road! Like many people starting a new craft, I reached a point early on where I thought I had everything figured out, but weddings quickly humbled me. Unlike many other types of photography, weddings are incredibly fast-paced, you have to anticipate moments before they happen, and adapt to constantly changing lighting and timelines.
Once I started second shooting consistently with more experienced photographers, I had a lot of growth in my work, and it changed the way I think about talent. I don’t believe great artists are just born with a gift. Skill is built through thousands of hours of practice, curiosity, and a drive to keep improving. That mindset is really the core of my business. Whether it’s my technical skill, organization, or customer service, I know that as long as I put in the work and learn from my mistakes, I’ll keep on growing.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in documentary-style wedding and couples photography, with the goal of creating images that feel genuine, emotive, and timeless. While I always make time for the classic portraits every couple wants, the heart of my work is capturing the real moments that cannot be planned or directed. Whether it’s a parent tearing up during the ceremony or the best man going crazy on the dance floor, those candids tell the true story of the day and the people who made it so special.
What sets my approach apart is that I want my clients to be fully present on their wedding day, not feel like they’re spending it in front of a camera. I guide when it’s helpful, but I never want people to feel overly posed or performative. Weddings go by so quickly, and it’s really important to me that my couples get to actually enjoy their day! My goal is to create photographs that not only show what the day looked like, but also remind my couples how it felt.
Beyond the photographs themselves, what I’m most proud of is the connection I get to build with my couples. I feel incredibly lucky that people invite me into one of the happiest and most meaningful days of their lives. By the time the wedding day arrives, I want it to feel like a friend is showing up with a camera rather than a stranger. Every couple has a different story, and getting to celebrate alongside them while preserving those memories is something I’ll never take for granted.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always very curious and loved trying new hobbies, especially anything creative. I loved drawing, painting, and playing the ukulele! I also found school extremely boring; I preferred learning by doing and gravitated toward experiences that challenged me and kept me engaged.
Looking back, it makes a lot of sense that I ended up in wedding photography. Every wedding is different, and the fast-paced nature of the day means there’s always something new to anticipate and create.
