Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina.
Hi Sabrina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in 2014, driven by my love for desserts and the endless possibilities that come from combining flavors. Baking gave me a sense of joy and fulfillment, but what truly inspired me was becoming a mother. I started baking homemade treats for my daughter, who is now 15, because I wanted her to grow up enjoying fresh, homemade desserts made with love.
What started as baking for my family quickly grew through word of mouth. Friends, neighbors, and family began placing orders, and before I knew it, I was running a small home-based business while balancing a full-time career with a reputed media company in Mumbai, India, and raising a young child.
In 2016, my family relocated to New Jersey. Between moving to a new country, welcoming our second child, and adjusting to a completely new life, baking took a temporary back seat. Even so, my passion never faded. I spent that time learning new techniques, experimenting with recipes, and continually improving my skills, knowing that I wanted to return to baking when the time was right.
That opportunity came during the COVID-19 pandemic. I started supplying freshly baked cinnamon rolls to a local deli, and that small opportunity reignited my business. From there, I expanded into custom cakes and other desserts, and the business steadily grew.
Today, we specialize in custom cakes, custom cupcakes, and macaron towers, creating desserts that are tailored to each client’s vision and celebration. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how something that began with baking for my daughter has grown into a business that allows me to be part of so many families special moments. Every cake I create reflects the same passion and care that inspired me to start baking over a decade ago.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing the creative and business sides of entrepreneurship while staying true to my values. As a home-based business owner, I wear many hats—from baker and cake designer to marketer, accountant, customer service representative, and mom. Building a business in a highly competitive market without a storefront or a large marketing budget meant relying almost entirely on word of mouth, social media, and consistently exceeding my customers’ expectations.
At the same time, I was determined to create desserts that reflected my vision without compromising on quality. From the beginning, I wanted every product to be made completely from scratch using premium ingredients because I believe the quality of the ingredients directly impacts the flavor and the overall experience. Sourcing those ingredients consistently, while keeping the business sustainable, has been one of my biggest challenges.
Developing recipes was another important part of the journey. It took countless hours of testing and refining to create recipes that delivered exceptional taste and texture while ensuring every cake looked just as beautiful as it tasted. For me, presentation and flavor go hand in hand—one should never come at the expense of the other.
Pricing has also been a learning experience. Handmade custom cakes are not just desserts; they are edible works of art that require premium ingredients, careful planning, and many hours of craftsmanship. One of the ongoing challenges has been helping customers understand the value behind a made-from-scratch, artisan product and why quality is worth investing in.
Like many small business owners, the COVID-19 pandemic brought uncertainty, but it also created an unexpected opportunity. Supplying cinnamon rolls to a local deli helped reignite my business and eventually led to expanding into custom cakes, cupcakes, and macaron towers.
Looking back, every challenge has strengthened both me and my business. They’ve taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of never compromising on quality. Those principles continue to define everything we create today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Cake Addict?
My work is about creating joy and lasting memories through food. Cakes have always been at the heart of life’s biggest celebrations—birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, baby showers, and countless milestones. Knowing that something I’ve created becomes part of those special moments is incredibly meaningful to me.
Beyond the artistry, my work is rooted in authenticity. I believe that a beautiful cake should taste just as exceptional as it looks. That’s why every dessert is made from scratch using carefully selected, high-quality ingredients, without taking shortcuts. For me, it’s about honoring the craft and giving my customers an experience they’ll remember long after the celebration is over.
As a mother, I also understand the emotions behind every order. Whether it’s a child’s first birthday or a couple celebrating a milestone together, every cake represents someone’s story. Being trusted to bring those visions to life is both a privilege and a responsibility that I never take for granted.
At the end of the day, my work is a blend of creativity, craftsmanship, and connection. It’s not just about baking cakes—it’s about creating something that brings people together and becomes a cherished part of their happiest memories.
