Hi Eesha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always believed that true artistry is not defined by the medium you choose, but by the depth of your connection to the canvas in front of you. For me, my journey with art has been one of passion, dedication, and learning that a canvas can change entirely—but the heart behind it should stay the same.
My first canvas was movement. I began training in Kuchipudi, an Indian classical art form, at the age of ten. This type of dance is exceptionally demanding, as it requires an immense amount of discipline, humility, and a rare kind of emotional stamina that takes raw energy into a very finely refined expression. My love for Kuchipudi led me to complete my Rangapravesam, a solo debut, in 2025. This opened doors to my journey as an artist with the Kalpavruksha Dance Ensemble. With the ensemble, I have had the distinct privilege of bringing my cultural heritage to prestigious stages across India and the U.S.
However, there is more to Kuchipudi than pure energy, or the internal—the external is just as important. Before a dancer even takes their first step on stage, the face tells a story of its own. This is where my mindset towards art shifted; what began as a fascination with makeup naturally evolved into a broader passion for special effects artistry, specifically in film. As a self-taught artist, I approached the face with the same precision I applied to my dance, eventually channeling that drive into founding my own makeup business.
Today, as a student at Rutgers Business School, my canvas has expanded once again—this time into the professional world. How do I connect my experiences in artistry to business? Well, to me, the business world requires the exact same skills. In all aspects, I am applying the same discipline I learned throughout my journey.
My core philosophy has remained unchanged: I am simply taking a blank canvas and bringing a narrative to life. I have no intention of confining my potential to a single box, and I look forward to meeting every future endeavor with unwavering ambition and grace that knows no limits.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey with art has been an incredibly fulfilling one, but honestly, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. For me, the hardest part hasn’t been the hours of practice—rather, it’s dealing with how people perceive me as an artist.
When you have several different passions, people naturally want to categorize you so you’re easier to understand from their perspective. If they see you as a classical dancer, they assume that’s all you do. If they see you running a makeup business, they look at the surface and assume it’s just a fun pastime, completely missing the years of effort behind it.
For a while, it felt like I was constantly having to explain myself—trying to prove that being deeply invested in one world didn’t mean I was any less dedicated to the other. It’s frustrating when people assume that because your talents are diverse, your focus must be diluted.
It takes a lot of resilience to constantly overcome those assumptions. However, the true turning point for me was realizing that I didn’t need to shrink myself, or apologize even, for being well-rounded just to make others feel comfortable. I stopped trying to prove myself and just let the quality of my work speak for itself. That taught me that true grace isn’t just about how you present yourself—it’s about quietly standing your ground when the world tries to tell you who you are.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At the heart of my work is precision. Wherever I may be, I’m known for taking a skill nobody handed me and refining it, quietly, until it’s perfect to me.
As a classical dancer, what sets my performance apart is less about technicality and more about abhinaya (expression)—the ability to let the face carry a story on its own. That same instinct is what carried over into makeup artistry: I taught myself professional technique, face painting, and prosthetics simply by paying close attention to detail.
What am I most proud of? Not a single achievement of mine has not been built through repetition, patience, and a refusal to accept “good enough”.
I believe what sets me apart is that I don’t treat any of my skills as separate. The discipline it takes to hold a mudra until it’s perfect is the exact same patience it takes to teach myself a technique no one physically showed me how to do. It’s not that I’m juggling many art forms—it’s that I’ve found discipline for all of them to be the most essential, and I keep applying it to a new canvas.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as the absolute freedom to meet your own potential without ever compromising on it. From the surface, my interests may seem quite different. Some people prefer a single lane, but I’ve always found that a bit boring. My view is simply that I don’t see the stamina of a classical dancer, the amount of effort it takes to run a business, and the mindset needed for the business world as separate identities; they all come from the exact same well of discipline. Therefore, I measure success by the fact that I can navigate all of this without ever watering myself down. A diverse palette does not mean that your focus is scattered—it just means you have a much more interesting story to tell.
