Today we’d like to introduce you to Orlando Oliveira.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Like many great journeys, mine started by accident. a friend bought a digital camera, and jokingly, I bought one with one extra megapixel just to one up him. Not long after, another friend invited me to spend a day walking around New York City taking photos. That day changed everything. What began as friendly competition quickly turned into a genuine passion and, eventually, a career.
When I started, there were no YouTube tutorials, Instagram creators, or TikTok videos teaching photography. I learned through trial and error, countless hours of practice, and a determination to improve with every wedding I photographed. Every mistake became a lesson, and every couple trusted me with one of the most important days of their lives, which pushed me to continually grow.
Today, 20 years later, I have had the privilege of photographing more than 1,200 weddings across the United States and internationally. My goal has always been to create timeless, authentic, and emotionally driven imagery that allows couples to relive not only how their wedding looked, but how it truly felt. Along the way, I expanded into cinematography, built an incredible team, and have been honored with international recognition for my work.
Looking back, I am grateful that what started as a simple joke between friends turned into a career that has allowed me to tell thousands of love stories. I still approach every wedding with the same excitement I had when I first picked up a camera, always striving to create something meaningful and unforgettable for every couple I work with.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. When I started, there were no YouTube tutorials or social media platforms filled with educational content like there are today. I had to learn through trial and error, making mistakes, asking questions, and spending countless hours practicing and figuring things out on my own. Every challenge became an opportunity to improve.
Like any small business owner, I have also faced the ups and downs of running a business. The wedding industry is constantly evolving, and staying relevant means continuously adapting, learning new techniques, embracing new technology, and finding ways to stand out while staying true to my style.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that success does not happen overnight. It comes from consistency, hard work, and treating every couple as if they are your only client. Nearly 20 years later, I still look for ways to grow and improve because I believe there is always something new to learn. Those challenges have shaped not only the photographer I am today, but also the person and business owner I have become.
As you know, we’re big fans of Photography By Orlando. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Photography By Orlando is built on the belief that every couple deserves more than beautiful photos. They deserve an experience they’ll never forget and memories that feel just as real decades from now as they did on their wedding day. We specialize in luxury wedding photography and cinematography that blends authentic emotion with an editorial style, creating timeless images that are both elegant and deeply personal.
What sets us apart is the relationships we build with our couples. We take the time to understand who they are, making them feel comfortable in front of the camera so their personalities shine through naturally. Our goal is never to stage every moment, but to anticipate the genuine ones that cannot be recreated.
We are most proud of the trust our couples place in us and the relationships that continue long after the wedding day. Many of our clients become lifelong friends and return to us to document new chapters in their lives. At the end of the day, we are not simply delivering photographs and films. We are preserving family history, creating heirlooms that will be treasured for generations.
I actually think this is the strongest answer of the interview because it tells readers **what makes Photography By Orlando different** instead of repeating how you got started or how many weddings you’ve photographed. It also has a luxury tone that matches the brand you’ve been building.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about New Jersey is the incredible variety it offers. As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of photographing couples all over the state, and I truly believe New Jersey has some of the best wedding venues in the country. Venues like Nanina’s in the Park, Macaluso’s, and The Palace at Somerset Park are absolutely stunning, and they help make every wedding feel unique and unforgettable. Beyond that, New Jersey offers beautiful beaches, parks, charming towns, and easy access to both New York City and Philadelphia.
If I had to choose something I like least, it would be the traffic, especially during peak travel times. But even with that, I think the beauty, diversity, and opportunities our state provides far outweigh the inconvenience.
