Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Girardi.
Hi Amanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In early 2021 after 25+ years in the banking industry, I bought a candy store. It quickly was renovated and The Sprinkle Experiment joined the party. That is our bakery. We grew quickly. Received hate mail about having a pride flag in our window. News, thousands of people showed their support near and far. From there we out grew the kitchen we build in the store on South Ave. we then build a full commercial kitchen down the street. We have been there two years. Since we started, our vendors that we service daily has grown. Deliveries start at 5:30 am daily. They are all coffee houses! One being Track 5, the most well known in the area. They carry a ton of our stuff. Then Smalltown opened. Started with just crumb cake and has turned into daily deliveries of baked goods and FOOD. We cater too! Now the lease ends 8/30 and we decided not to renew. This will allow time to focus on the wholesale side and all the other clients we have as well as new added daily! We are alive and well and not closing. It’s truly the next phase of our plan.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Started this venture with my dad by my side. He fell severely ill and lost him before our one year anniversary. It changed everything for me. His knowledge of anything food as he was a retired chef was beyond invaluable. But it didn’t hurt me. It made me push harder. The day he passed I still had to work. Orders needed to happen and he would never want me to cancel anything.
There is a lot of like businesses in Cranford. We are all unique and have people!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are known for crumb cake! But we do it ALL. Baking. Food. Parties. Classes. You name it. We do it!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
There are many different measures of success. To me, success is being able to build something that has a meaningful impact on other people.
Success is seeing a child get excited about something they created in one of our classes, watching families come back year after year, or knowing that we’ve created a space where people feel welcomed and connected. It’s also being able to look at how far Sweet n’ Fancy has come. What started as a home bakery in Colonia to becoming part of a community and knowing that I built something that people genuinely value.
