Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanya Wadhwa.
Hi Vanya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Adventure Paws really started long before there was ever even a business plan. I’ve always felt drawn to animals and gradually ended up gaining years of experience working with and fostering dogs, especially senior (and often ill) Great Pyrenees dogs. My partner and I eventually realized that caring for animals wasn’t just something we enjoyed as casual pet owners, it was something we had become quite skilled at over the years.
There was another piece of my background that ultimately shaped one of the core qualities of Adventure Paws: my extensive experience in customer service. Formerly having enjoyed a career as a flight attendant, I learned that great service isn’t simply about completing a task or giving someone what they asked for. It’s about listening, anticipating needs, communicating well, paying attention to the little things, and making people feel seen. I wanted to bring that same philosophy into pet care.
When I started accepting personal pet-care clients, I saw an opportunity to combine these two passions. I wanted to elevate not only the standard of care pets receive, but the entire experience of being a pet-care client. And this became a big part of what I wanted Adventure Paws to stand for. I want pet parents to feel heard and understood, just as much as I want their pets to feel safe and comfortable. My customer service background taught me how important it is to understand what someone actually needs, sometimes before they even know how to articulate it, and I’ve found that skill translates incredibly well into pet-care.
The journey of building Adventure Paws has also been about learning how to grow while holding onto those standards. I don’t want growth simply for the sake of having more clients. I want to grow in a way that allows us to continue providing an experience that feels personal, thoughtful, and truly elevated above the rest.
Ultimately I want people to walk away from working with Adventure Paws feeling like not only were their pets well cared for, but that THEY were cared for too. This philosophy is what helped shape our path from the beginning, and it continues to shape where we’re going.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has actually been overcoming my own imposter syndrome and learning to believe that I’m capable of building something meaningful. This was also made harder at times by having some people question what I was doing or even tell me this isn’t a legitimate long term career and that maybe I should look into getting a ‘real job.’
There were moments when those doubts snuck in deep and had me questioning every decision I’ve made to get here. But I’m learning to remind myself often that building something of your own requires trusting your vision even when others may not understand it yet. Every challenge has pushed me to become more confident, more resilient, and more committed to proving to myself, not anyone else, that I’m capable of creating a life I love on my own terms.

Adventure Paws is a professional pet-care business built around a simple belief: pets deserve thoughtful, meaningful care, and their people deserve to feel just as cared for and confident while they’re away.
We provide dog walking, cat care, pet sitting, and personalized care throughout our service areas, with a particular passion for working with giant breeds and senior pets (although smaller and younger pups and kitties are always welcome too!)
What sets Adventure Paws apart is the level of intention we bring to every booking. We don’t believe pet-care should be transactional or one size fits all. We take the time to understand each pet’s personality, routine, quirks, limitations, and then build our care around who that individual animal actually is.
Just as importantly, we place a high value on the human side of pet care as well. Taking care of someone’s pet also means taking care of the person who loves them. We believe in transparency and full communication, which means pet parents are kept in the loop throughout every booking. Our goal is to eliminate the uncertainty that can come with leaving your animals in someone else’s care.
I’m especially proud of the reputation we’re building for elevated, compassionate care. Adventure Paws grew out of my desire to creat the kind of pet care experience I would want for my own animals, one where pets are truly known and cared for, their needs are respected, and their people can truly relax knowing they’re in good hands.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love a good book on how to elevate customer experiences. Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara is a great read for something like that. As far as podcasts, I’ve learned immense amounts of how to create a truly professional level pet care business by listening to Pet Sitter Confessional, a vast collection of experiences and advice from other pet care professionals who are doing it right!
