Life & Work with Jess Glass of New Jersey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Glass.

Hi Jess, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My Mom handed me camera when I was 13 and photography has been a part of my identity ever since. I always dreamt of being a photographer, obsessed over it even. I’m not sure why but people have always been my favorite subject to photograph, so I would spend my free time taking photos of friends. I focused heavily on photography throughout school and even ended up going to college for it. Then in 2019 I discovered Wedding Photography and I instantly fell in love.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In 2021, I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Thyroid Eye Disease and I wasn’t sure what my future looked like. It changed everything from my appearance to the function of my eyes. I ended up getting treatment which was luckily very successful and the whole experience made me realize that I need to fully go after what I want in life. I’m grateful to say that I’m able to live out my dream and I’ve even won awards for it! Not a day goes by where I take that for granted. My experiences inspire the art that I create and the safe space that I provide for people. My art is an extension of myself and the people that I get to meet and work with. I want anyone I work with to walk away from their experience feeling celebrated, seen, and confident in their skin as they are.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Wedding Photographer! My style is artistic and personalized to the couples that I get to work with. My approach allows me to get to know people on a deeper level and guide them towards feeling like themselves on camera. Seeing photos of yourself that you love is kind of magical and can be highly confidence boosting! I also offer pregnancy sessions and branding shoots for small businesses and my photography is done digitally and on film.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The biggest risk I ever took was leaving my full time job to work for myself! Anytime I’ve gotten out of my comfort zone or have taken a chance on me I haven’t regretted it, in fact it’s totally shaped who I am as a person. Working for myself has been one of the greatest journeys of my life.
