Hi Giulia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Italy and raised in Hamilton, New Jersey, and I am now preparing to permanently return to the Central Jersey area after living in Japan. Art has always been part of my life—my father is an artist and sculptor—so I grew up surrounded by creativity and self-expression. When I discovered makeup as a medium, I fell in love with its transformative power: not only the confidence it gave me, but the opportunity it gave me to help other women recognize and embrace their own beauty and power.
I attended the Master Program at Makeup Designory in New York City in 2016, which opened the door to a career in editorial, fashion, and beauty. I have worked on more than a dozen New York Fashion Week shows, including serving as a key makeup artist on select productions. My work has appeared in Vogue twice on models walking for designer Malan Breton during NYFW, and I have contributed to fashion and editorial projects associated with publications and platforms including V Magazine, InStyle, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, CR Men’s Fashion Book, Bustle, Elite Daily, and Bumble. I have also worked on campaigns for New York designer Layana Aguilar and had my work featured in Billie Blunt Magazine and Never Not Styled Magazine. Along the way, I assisted major New York City makeup artists on editorial shoots and assisted on Season 2 of Hulu’s original series Freakish.
After building my career across New York and New Jersey, I moved to South Carolina with my family and became a mother of two. There, I shifted much of my focus toward bridal beauty on weekends while working full-time in hair and makeup at a boudoir studio during the week. In 2024, I was honored to be named one of Beaufort’s Most Inspiring Women by Beaufort Lifestyle Magazine.
My entrepreneurial side led me to create Amavi LLC, also known as Amavi Lash—a reusable faux-mink lash line designed with sensitive eyes in mind. I was selected to compete on Season 8 of The Blox in Kansas City, representing the brand. Seeing Amavi lashes worn by women such as Maya Macatumpag at the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever world premiere in Los Angeles and singer Skylar Simone has been an incredibly meaningful milestone.
Today, I am continuing to grow through beauty and lifestyle content creation while working toward my skincare license and a future in medical aesthetics. My goal has always been to blend artistry, beauty, and confidence-building in a way that helps women feel seen, empowered, and like the best version of themselves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes—there have definitely been struggles along the way. As a military spouse, my husband’s career in the Marine Corps has meant frequent moves, periods of essentially single-parenting while raising two young children, and having to repeatedly rebuild both my professional network and my businesses from the ground up.
Growing two businesses while balancing motherhood, military life, and constant transitions has not been easy. Each relocation brought new logistical and legal hurdles, especially when moving a business across state lines and eventually internationally when our family relocated to Japan. There were moments when it felt like I was starting over just as I had begun building momentum.
At the same time, those experiences have made me more resilient, adaptable, and resourceful. I have learned how to keep moving forward through uncertainty, create opportunities wherever I am, and trust that the skills, relationships, and purpose I have built travel with me. The process has been challenging, but it has shaped me into a stronger business owner, artist, mother, and woman.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur with more than a decade of experience across editorial, fashion, runway, television, bridal, boudoir, and event beauty. My foundation is in editorial and photoshoot work, and I am proud to be a published artist with experience in many different corners of the industry. That versatility allows me to create everything from polished, camera-ready makeup and full glam to soft, lasting bridal beauty and customized boudoir looks.
When a client works with me, they can expect high energy, clear communication, professionalism, and organization from start to finish. I value punctuality and preparation, but I also believe the experience should feel personal. I begin with in-depth consultations because understanding a client’s vision, comfort level, and desired look is essential. Whether I am working with someone on their wedding day, preparing them for a boudoir session, or getting them ready for an intimate event, I strive to be their hype woman and a calming, supportive presence. Those moments can bring up big feelings, and I want every client to know they are safe, cared for, and never alone in the process—if they need to pause and take a deep breath, I will be right there in their corner.
I am especially proud of becoming a multifaceted artist with a wide range of practical experience and tools in my kit. My editorial and magazine background made me comfortable working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments, while my work in television and photography taught me the importance of makeup that reads beautifully on camera. Bridal and outdoor work—especially in the South Carolina heat—helped me perfect long-wear product combinations and application techniques that keep makeup looking fresh throughout the day.
I also created Amavi Lash, a luxury reusable faux-mink lash line designed with sensitive eyes in mind. Because I personally experience chronic dry eye and understand how frustrating uncomfortable lashes can be, I wanted to offer a solution that feels lightweight, comfortable, and beautiful. My lashes are designed to be approachable for beginners while still offering the quality, comfort, and customization that experienced lash wearers appreciate.
As I return to New Jersey, I am entering an exciting new chapter personally and professionally. I have wanted to deepen my knowledge of skincare and medical aesthetics for years, and I am now pursuing that path alongside my artistry. My goal is to expand the level of care I can offer clients—combining makeup expertise, skin-conscious beauty, and a luxury experience that helps every person feel confident, supported, and seen.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
As the daughter of two immigrant parents who had to begin again—not once, but twice, first in Italy and then in the United States—I grew up watching what resilience, courage, and hard work look like in real life. My parents have always been my biggest supporters and greatest source of encouragement. They taught me to pursue what genuinely makes my heart happy, trusting that when you work with passion, purpose, and consistency, the opportunities and financial stability can follow.
I have also been incredibly fortunate to meet people in every chapter of my life who have helped me grow personally and professionally. Early in my career, I spent a great deal of time assisting established makeup artists. That experience was invaluable because it allowed me to observe how experienced artists organize themselves, lead a team, advocate for themselves and their assistants, and remain composed in fast-paced environments. Assisting shaped the way I operate my own business today—it taught me that talent matters, but professionalism, preparation, communication, and the ability to work well with others matter just as much.
I believe strongly in the idea that you create your own luck. I put myself out there, accepted opportunities to learn, did unpaid work when it made sense early on, and worked hard to earn visibility and trust. I reached out to artists whose work I admired and asked to assist them, which is how I became Tiffany Patton’s assistant for several years. Those experiences helped me build meaningful relationships, sharpen my skills, and understand the value of showing up consistently.
My advice to someone looking for a mentor or trying to grow their network is to be courageous and intentional. Meet other creatives, connect with your local community, introduce yourself, and do not be afraid to send the message, make the call, or walk in with your résumé. Your energy and confidence are part of your professional presence. In a service-based industry, people often choose to work with someone who makes the experience feel easy, positive, and trustworthy—not simply someone with the right technical skills.
Above all, be professional, reliable, prepared, and easy to work with. Those qualities have helped set me apart throughout my career, and I work diligently to show every client and collaborator how much I value their time, trust, and experience.
