Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammie Ellis.
Hi Tammie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My fitness journey began with a genuine passion for health, strength, and helping others become the best version of themselves. What started as a personal commitment to fitness eventually grew into a career and a lifestyle that has spanned nearly two decades.
I became a certified personal trainer in 2007 and began building my experience working with clients of different ages, fitness levels, and goals. Over the years, I expanded beyond personal training into fitness management, client development, body transformation, weight management, nutrition guidance, and physique training.
One of the proudest milestones in my journey came in 2016 when I earned my IFBB Professional status. Becoming an IFBB Pro represented years of discipline, sacrifice, consistency, and pushing myself beyond what I thought was possible. That experience also shaped the way I coach others today—I understand firsthand that meaningful transformation requires just as much mental strength as physical strength.
Eventually, I took everything I had learned as a trainer, competitor, and fitness manager and stepped into entrepreneurship by building Figure Fit Fitness. Today, my focus is much bigger than simply helping someone lose weight or complete a workout. I help people become stronger, reshape their bodies, improve their confidence, develop healthier habits, and discover what they are capable of at every stage of life.
My journey continues to evolve, but the foundation remains the same: discipline, consistency, strength, and a genuine desire to help others transform from the inside out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. One of my greatest challenges has been learning how to balance my passion for fitness and competing with the responsibilities of everyday life. While pursuing my goals in the fitness industry, I was also working full time, building a business, training clients, and serving as a caregiver for someone I love. There were many times when it felt like there simply weren’t enough hours in the day.
Competing at a professional level requires an incredible amount of discipline. Training, meal preparation, cardio, recovery, and maintaining the mental focus necessary to compete all had to fit around my professional and personal responsibilities. I didn’t have the luxury of putting the rest of my life on hold while I pursued my passion. I had to learn how to make my passion coexist with my responsibilities.
Being a caregiver added another layer to that journey. There were times when someone else’s needs had to come before my own, even when I was exhausted or had goals and commitments of my own to meet. That experience taught me patience, compassion, sacrifice, and an entirely different kind of strength.
Building a fitness business while maintaining a full-time career also came with challenges. Entrepreneurship requires you to wear many hats—you’re not only the trainer; you’re responsible for your clients, scheduling, marketing, finances, growth, and the overall vision of the business. I had to become very intentional with my time and learn how to keep moving forward even when everything wasn’t perfectly balanced.
There were sacrifices, setbacks, and moments when I had to dig very deep, but those experiences became part of my strength. They taught me that discipline isn’t about having a perfect schedule or perfect circumstances. It’s about continuing to show up for the things that matter to you while honoring the responsibilities that matter just as much.
Looking back, I believe those challenges make my journey more meaningful. I didn’t pursue my passion in the absence of real-life responsibilities—I pursued it in the midst of them. And I’m proud that through all the different roles I’ve carried, I never completely stopped making room for the part of myself that had a dream.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Figure Fit Fitness is built around the belief that fitness should be personal, purposeful, and designed for the individual. I’m a dedicated personal trainer who specializes in proper exercise form, physique symmetry, body shaping and structure, posture training, weight management, and nutrition guidance. My goal is not simply to put someone through a workout—it’s to understand their body, their goals, and what they need to create lasting change.
One of the things I’m especially known for is my attention to detail. Proper form is extremely important to me because how you perform an exercise can make all the difference in achieving results while also helping to reduce the risk of injury. I pay close attention to posture, alignment, muscle balance, and overall physique symmetry so that we are developing the body in a way that is both strong and aesthetically balanced.
My background as an IFBB Professional has also given me a unique understanding of physique development and body transformation. I bring that knowledge to everyday clients—not because everyone wants to be a bodybuilder, but because the principles of proper training, muscle development, nutrition, discipline, and consistency can help people at every fitness level achieve a healthier and more confident version of themselves.
Nutrition guidance is another important part of my approach. I believe training and nutrition have to work together, so I help clients develop realistic nutritional strategies that complement their individual goals and lifestyles.
What sets Figure Fit Fitness apart is the level of personal attention and care I give each client. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. I meet people where they are and create a strategy based on their individual body, lifestyle, abilities, and goals. I want my clients to understand what they are doing, why they are doing it, and how it contributes to their overall transformation.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Figure Fit Fitness represents more than appearance. It represents strength, confidence, discipline, longevity, and becoming your personal best. Whether someone wants to lose weight, reshape their physique, improve their posture, gain strength, or simply feel better in their body, I want them to know they have a place here.
Ultimately, I want people to know that you don’t have to already be “fit” to begin. You just have to be willing to start. My job is to provide the knowledge, structure, accountability, and encouragement to help you move forward—and to teach you how to train your body with purpose.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I regularly listen to a variety of health, fitness, nutrition, and holistic wellness podcasts. I especially enjoy content that provides nutritional guidance and explores how food, exercise, supplementation, and lifestyle choices can impact our overall health, performance, and longevity.
My continued interest in holistic health also complements my work with Houda Holistics, where the focus on overall wellness aligns naturally with my philosophy as a fitness professional. I believe true wellness goes beyond how we look physically—it includes how we nourish, strengthen, and care for our bodies from the inside out.
I’m particularly interested in learning more about nutrition, healthy aging, muscle development and preservation, metabolism, recovery, and sustainable lifestyle practices. I believe that being a great trainer also means remaining a student, continuing to learn and bringing valuable knowledge back to the people I serve through Figure Fit Fitness and Houda Holistics.
My favorite book is the Let ‘Em Theory by Mel Robbin’s
