Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianna Miller.
Hi Julianna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
JM Events really started as a creative outlet for me. I’ve always been someone who loves bringing people together, paying attention to the little details, and finding ways to make celebrations feel extra special. I began by planning and designing events for family and friends, and through word of mouth and referrals, what started as something I simply loved doing gradually grew into a business.
What makes my story a little different is that event planning was never originally part of my career plan. I earned my bachelor’s degree from West Chester University and recently graduated from Seton Hall University with my master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. While pursuing that career, JM Events continued to grow alongside me. Event planning gave me an entirely different creative outlet, but I quickly realized how much the two paths actually have in common, both require listening, problem-solving, organization, adaptability, and, most importantly, genuinely caring about the people you’re working with.
As JM Events grew, so did the services I was able to offer. What began with designing and setting up celebrations has evolved into full and partial event planning, day-of coordination, vendor management, custom decor and backdrops, stationery and signage, personalized guest experiences, and more. I’ve now had the opportunity to plan everything from intimate showers and milestone birthdays to weddings, anniversaries, corporate events, and large celebrations.
At the heart of JM Events is the belief that “It’s All in the Details.” I never want an event to feel like a copy-and-paste version of something that has been done before. I love getting to know my clients, hearing their stories, and figuring out how we can incorporate details that feel personal to them. Some clients come to me knowing exactly what they want, while others give me a few ideas and trust me to run with them and I truly love both.
I’m incredibly excited to continue growing the business, building relationships within our community, and creating celebrations that people remember long after the event is over.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my biggest challenges was building a business while also completing graduate school and earning my master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Balancing classes, clinical placements, graduation, and running a growing business required a lot of organization, late nights, and learning as I went.
Through all of it, one thing I never wanted to compromise was the experience I gave my clients. No matter how busy life became behind the scenes, I wanted every client to feel like their event had my full attention. Learning how to balance both worlds pushed me to become more organized, intentional, and confident as a business owner and ultimately showed me just how much I’m capable of.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
JM Events is a full-service event planning and design company specializing in creating personalized, detail-driven celebrations. From full and partial planning to day-of coordination, custom décor, stationery, signage, favors, and unique guest experiences, we love bringing every element of an event together.
What sets JM Events apart is our attention to detail and the relationships we build with our clients. Our motto, “It’s All in the Details,” truly represents everything we do, we want each event to feel personal, intentional, and completely unique to the people we’re celebrating. I’m most proud of the trust our clients place in us and that so much of our growth has come from referrals, repeat clients, and relationships within our community.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that relationships are everything. Building genuine connections not only with my clients, but also with vendors, venues, and other professionals in the industry has been such an important part of growing JM Events. Collaboration, communication, and mutual support can make such a difference in creating a successful event. I’m incredibly grateful for the relationships I’ve built along the way and the opportunities, referrals, and friendships that have come from them.
