Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Han.
Hi Will, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We’re Will and Shell.
We met in college—it feels like a lifetime ago. We study Fine Art in New York, and dreamed of seeing the world. Our story has unfolded quietly over the years. Nothing dramatic—just real life.
In 2014, we photographed our first wedding for a friend. What stayed with us wasn’t just the event itself, but the feeling—relaxed, joyful, and full of small, unscripted moments. We remember being completely immersed, pressing the shutter instinctively, simply photographing what we saw. Later, we learned there was a name for this approach—photojournalistic. It felt right from the beginning, and we’ve followed that instinct ever since.
Over the years, we’ve photographed hundreds of weddings. Based in New Jersey, we’ve witnessed celebrations across cultures and traditions. People often say weddings are all the same. In some ways, they are. But the people are never the same—and it’s the people who give each wedding its own character. Even now, we still find something moving in every wedding we photograph.
At home, we have a ragdoll cat—grey and white, calm to an almost philosophical level. No matter what’s happening, he’ll quietly walk past you and settle into his usual spot.
We also have a labradoodle, about forty pounds, with curly fur. When we first adopted him at three months old, he was a deep brown. A few years later, he somehow turned into a soft grey-brown. We think it suits him better—and matches our furniture, too. He’s the kind of dog people meet once and immediately want to take home.
We thought that was already a full house. Then in 2019, our twins were born. In 2022, a little boy joined us. Life with children isn’t something you can fully imagine beforehand. We were there for everything—the feedings, the falls, the sleepless nights. It was exhausting, but also filled with a sense of fullness that’s hard to put into words.
Photography became part of it all. At weddings, we document newlyweds. In our own lives, we photograph constantly—ourselves, our children, our cat and dog, everything in between. We don’t try to shape moments into what they should be. We simply let them be as they are. With enough care and attention, there’s always something quietly beautiful in everyday life.
As time passes, these images begin to carry a different weight. Looking back, there’s a quiet pull—a feeling of wanting to step back into those moments and hold them again, just as they were.
To us, a good photograph reveals time—
fleeting moments gathered together, becoming something we’ll one day call our history.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. We’ve faced many challenges along the way, but one of the biggest has been learning how to connect our fine art background with wedding photography.
We both came from fine art programs, where we were trained to develop our own visual language, ideas, and personal way of seeing the world. In that environment, art is often about expressing the artist’s own perspective.
Wedding photography is different. It’s not only about what we want to express. It’s also about understanding the couple, their relationships, their families, and everything happening around them, then finding the beauty and meaning that already exists there.
For us, the biggest challenge has been finding that bridge between our own artistic vision and the real story of a wedding. Over time, we’ve learned that the strongest photographs happen when those two things come together naturally.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our Vision: Authentic & Fine Art
For us, art has never been about escaping reality, nor about copying it exactly as it is. It is about finding a connection with the world while staying true to our own sense of beauty. Somewhere between what is real and what is felt, art comes alive. This is the idea behind our name, Resonance.
When we stepped into wedding photography, we carried the same belief with us. Over more than ten years of photographing weddings, we have come to see our work as a dialogue between two things that matter deeply to us: Authentic and Fine Art.
Authentic means preserving a wedding as it truly happened. The emotions, relationships, atmosphere, people, place, and small details all become part of the story. As we have grown older and experienced more of life, this has become increasingly important to us. When we were younger, we were often drawn to images that felt new, beautiful, or visually striking. Today, we believe one of photography’s most important purposes is much simpler: to preserve what was really there.
A photograph does not need to be dramatic to become meaningful. With time, even a simple image of a person, an expression, a gesture, or a place can carry far more than what was visible in that moment. It can bring back relationships, memories, and an entire period of life. The longer time passes, the more valuable an honest record can become.
At the same time, we believe the heart of Fine Art is creation.
Our backgrounds in photography, painting, and fine art have shaped the way we see people, beauty, stories, composition, light, and images. But creativity in wedding photography is not about forcing a visual style onto a wedding or creating something disconnected from reality. It begins with care: paying attention, truly seeing the people in front of us, and understanding the place, atmosphere, and meaning of the moment.
Every couple, family, place, and wedding brings something different. We are also constantly changing through experience, life, and our evolving understanding of art. When our own way of seeing meets the unique reality of a wedding, something new can emerge.
That is where Fine Art enters our work.
Composition, light, color, timing, and form all become part of the expression, but we want that beauty to feel as though it belongs to the wedding itself, rather than something added afterward. We are not interested in repeating the same formula or making every wedding look alike. We want each wedding to lead us toward its own visual language.
This is also why we photograph with a documentary eye. We allow real moments to unfold naturally, while bringing our own sense of timing, composition, light, and visual expression to what we see.
For us, the strongest wedding photographs live somewhere between these two ideas. They are honest enough to preserve what truly happened, yet personal enough to carry the photographer’s way of seeing.
That is what Resonance means to us: the connection between the reality of the wedding and our own artistic vision.
When those two meet, something unique can be created.
At their heart, our wedding photographs are a resonance between the Authentic and the Fine Art.
