Inspiring Conversations with Susan Marco of Susan Marco, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Marco.

Hi Susan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The journey has been interesting, for sure! I grew up (until the age of 14) in a suburb of Chicago, then moving to the Jersey Shore. Life was relatively normal, even though I had a very low self-esteem and was a late bloomer. After high school, I was quite aimless, not sure who I wanted to be, or how to get there. College was not attainable, so I wandered for a few years working in retail positions, advancing to management. It was good, but there was always a sense of something missing, ie: a “there must be more than this” kind of feeling.

Around this time, I met my first meditation teacher and everything started to change, to open up for me. My fellow meditators (we were 11 initially) and I ended up buying a house and living in a conscious community for 10 years. It was an incredible experience full of wonderful memories and a lot of intense learning about group dynamics, family patterns and so much more! The lessons I learned there continue to inform my life and my work in profound ways.

Back at the beginning of that time I was gifted a massage session and had an overwhelming sense that I would love to help people feel this good, so I leaned in to a massage training. At the first class, I knew this was where I was meant to be, so I learned and within 9 months of completing the course, I left retail and continued what would end up being a 35 year massage practice!

Sometime around 30 years in practice I began thinking about what I might do next. The idea of hypnosis had been circling around in my brain for a few years. I had an aha moment one day and found a local teacher, and similar to when I found massage, I instinctively knew this was where I was meant to be. One interesting side note is that when we began learning how to induce a state of hypnotic trance, I realized that the techniques were exactly what I had learned all those years ago, that what my teacher called meditation was actually self-hypnosis. It felt aligned, a logical next step!

I graduated that initial course in 2018, began my hypnosis practice and continue to educate myself, to best serve my clients. I absolutely love what I get to do every day, helping people to create their best life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has mostly been a smooth ride, however the life of an entrepreneur can have many challenges. Maintaining consistent income requires constant marketing, which was not at the top of my skill set, but the love I have for the work is greater than the dislike I have for the rest of it!! I have been lucky to have good and generous people in my life who help me along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Most of the obstacles that impede our progress can be overcome with proper management. Unfortunately, we haven’t been educated on how to tap into our own intuitive intelligence, which resides in our subconscious mind.

With a diverse range of techniques, I teach clients how to handle stress and anxiety, modify habits or phobias, release what holds them back, let go of established patterns that lead to negative behaviors, confront self-imposed limitations, enhance performance, increase productivity or simply how to live a better life!

Through this process, the root cause of the person’s problem is identified and they are directed towards solution-oriented strategies and protocols for healing and resolution. As a result, my clients experience greater freedom, happiness, and an improved standard of living.

With a wealth of experience spanning more than three and a half decades in the Healing Arts, I have been instrumental in guiding individuals towards relaxation and rejuvenation. Driven by my passion to promote physical and emotional well-being, I have consistently endeavored to empower people to feel comfortable in their own skin.

Drawing from my own personal journey and extensive training, I incorporate my wisdom, insights and expertise into collaborative relationships with my clients resulting in positive and productive outcomes!

As well as working with clients 1:1, I offer many group opportunities, such as Women’s Circles, Goddess Workshops, various online programs like Collective Optimism – a bimonthly meet up online to raise our spirits and cultivate a more positive mindset, Identity Transformation Workshops and so much more!

In my spare time, I volunteer as head of 2 local organizations – Family Addiction Network, and Long Branch HEARS (Health, Education, Addiction and Recovery Support). Having walked the journey of heroin addiction with my step-son, I felt compelled to help. Family Addiction Network is a support group for family and friends of those who suffer with substance use issues, and Long Branch HEARS connects people with resources as well as spreading awareness and advocating for more services in our city. It is an honor to be a part of these organizations.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There are many!
Drew Rose (1989-2000) was my first meditation teacher who set me on a path to self-discovery and growth,
William T. Kelly, DC (1991 – 2002) I worked part time in Dr. Kelly’s office for about 12 years. He was a constant source of wisdom and support, helping me to be healthy and strong, as well as teaching me about health and healing.
Chris Fernie- (2000-2003) Institute for internal Transformation – through Qi Gong practices, Chris taught me about managing my internal energy. My time with him created profound changes in my sense of myself and how I relate with the world.
Blair Glaser – MA, LCAT, RDT (2000-2005) Personal transformation work, Blair helped me step into my authority and claim parts of myself I did not know or had lost along the way.
Erina and Dave Cowan – Blue Sun Energetics, (2005) Spiritual Coach Training, much of what I learned is incorporated into my life and my practice.
Dr. Jaime Feldman – Institute of Hypnotherapy (2018) Dr. Feldman introduced me to hypnosis and helped me become proficient in various hypnotic techniques.
Dr. Brian Weiss and Carole Weiss (2018) – Taught me how to guide clients to recall and heal past life memories.
Emma Romano (2020-present) More than anyone, Emma Romano has taught me how to foster genuine, deep healing and transformation with my clients. More than that, her modalities, which I have gone through as a client, have enabled me to be authentic in my practice, as well as in my personal life. She continues to be a main source of mentoring and support.

Aside from the wonderful mentors listed above, I give oodles of credit to my husband Larry Mihlon who supports me, teaches me and makes me want to continue to be a better person! I can not imagine walking this journey without him!!
