Daily Inspiration: Meet Linda McCrary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda McCrary.

Hi Linda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been working with students for 29 plus years. When I was 16 one of the teachers from the high that I attended asked me to work at her sports camp as a camp counselor. This is when I found out I was meant to teach and work with children. In 2017 I ran into a former camper that I had when I was in my teens. She said that she never forgot me. That same year I ran into another camper and he said I changed his life. This was a confirmation to me that I was making a positive impact as a teacher. I started teaching High School math from 2005 until 2008. Then I landed the plane in middle school math from 2008 to 2019. The reason why I resigned in 2019 is because I gave birth to my youngest son and my husband and I decided we would homeschool our children. During the pandemic I decided to start the process of being a virtual math teacher/ tutor. I invested in myself by buying a new laptop, printer and I attended virtual business webinars. Linda Teaches LLC was launched in April of 2021. So far Linda Teaches has serviced 55 students privately, but I have worked with about 2000 students since the age of 16. I have worked with these students in math and in after school programs. Some of the after school programs have been after care for school, math. tutoring, fashion club, and student counsel My father Walter Drummond Sr. who is a retired electrical engineer of 40 years recently decided to volunteer as a tutor to help students to succeed in math at Linda Teaches. We love virtual tutoring but we offer in home support also. Some of the math home support we offer is for the homeschool community and for after school programs we have the summer club which promotes project based learning.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One challenges is when the math contracts end. Sometimes there are times where there are less students then other months.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Linda Teaches LLC. I have a degree in math with a co concentration in education. Right now I do administration, teach and tutor at Linda Teaches . I am proud of the Math Summer Club. It was just launched this past summer 2026. It is a project based learning math club where a group of students will thrive by doing hands on math projects.
What sets this tutoring company apart is my philosophy in education. Even though I have a degree in teaching and homeschool my children. That is not a pre requisite skill to be a teacher. My philosophy is teaching is a gift, It does not matter how many degrees that a teacher has. A teacher can either flow in the gift or can not. A good teacher not just makes a difference in the classroom but for generations down the line. We make a positive lasting impact.

We also stand out because we have catered to the homeschooling community.

Lastly, our first priority is changing the mindset of our students. Positive affirmations and encouragement is important. In sessions we become math coaches and mentors. Students get more than just math teaching and tutoring. They learn life lessons and skills.
